Tory Leadership Runners and Riders

Another Truss initiative:

"She proposes that Oxford and Cambridge be forced to interview for a place any high-flying student in the country with three A* grades at A-level. She says it is wrong that 'you should have to put yourself forward' for these places."

Not sure what lies behind this Big Idea.

So she wants university application to start after A level results are in and not before otherwise she is talking drivel.

Drivel it is.

As we know they give A* out to the public schools, the rest get the crumbs off the table. It's aimed at restricting diversity still further.

The pair of them are saying anything to ingratiate themselves with the party members. Cutting income tax rates substantially and dispensing with the sugar tax are regressive policies and smell of desperation.

Don’t forget the war on us “wokes”. They must attack the “wokes”! We are the real enemy here pointing out visceral Tory racism, transphobia, their corruption, law-breaking, gerrymandering, statues of slave traders and genocidal imperialists etc etc.

They’re simply following Labour: Starmer was praised by the media for straight up lying to the Labour membership in order become leader, so the Tory candidates know they can say anything at all because none of it’s real, British politics is 100% panto.

Yes. So is Sunak. Both are useless but the whole party is clueless. You have to wonder why people don’t do what it takes to vote them out.

But the English voted them in, and with a thumping majority for Boris, showed how totally clueless they are.

truly mad.....

And after the debacle of Johnson and his audacious liar premiership, any successor, no matter how rancid and right-wing, will by comparison have a surface air of 'moderation'.

To replace the tories you and others moan about so much the UK needs Labour to win a majority of seats in a FPTP system. A minority of voters in Scotland have reduced Labour seats from 41 to 1, thus making it more difficult for Labour to gain that majority and remove the tories.

I understand why you don’t want to accept your contribution to the tories being in govt but there is much more to it than the English. The tories do not have a majority voting for them in England.

It's a strange article that. The opening:
The Conservative leadership candidate had said she wanted to introduce regional pay boards, in a bid to save a potential £8.8bn.
What does it mean? In what way do they 'save'? Governmnet 'saving' is just a synonym for 'not spending' and when that happens there is no 'growth'. All it represents is a cut in overall spending. So it might as well be represented as: 'we want to cut £8.8bn of spending.'

And then this:
In addition to saving money, the Truss camp also argued it would help boost growth in areas, where the private sector had been crowded out by public sector salaries.
There is no 'crowding out', the private sector's and public sector salaries all come from the same source! There isn't some magic divide in the total economy between private and public sector money in final spending. Just silly. In a shrinkage the private sector always shrinks and there is only one other sector that can make up the balance.

Finally, the true picture in the mind of the politician, which has nothing to do with how good or bad it is for actual people:
However, the proposal met with strong resistance from some Conservatives including Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen who said it was "a sure fire way to lose the next general election".
It's all they care about.

Truss doesn't know what she is doing. She doesn't know what she is saying. She can't even find a door to exit a room. She exhibits typical Tory cognitive dissonance with the world around her.

She is a lost and rather pathetic little soul who has learned that self-aggrandising prevarication in politics can be, and currently is, a winning trait. Her whimsical yet brutal policy-making endeavours are conditioned by the Guardians Of Tory Apparatus; say what needs to be said; please the deeply corrupt and partisan powers that be.

She is a calamity in waiting.

The tories are not in power in Scotland, so don't need removed, they need to be removed in England, so stop voting for them.

They seem to enjoy the feeling of fighting the Battle of the Somme over and over again. I think Nietzsche was probably right about the eternal return of the same.
