Rega 50th anniversary: what’s next?

Love Rega gear, but probably as some others have considered? Are there too many items in their range? A bit like Project. So many iterations in the Project range, couldn’t possibly navigate through their turntables!
Couldn’t Rega, for example, discontinue the Planar 2, and maybe the Planar 8, and then have a selection comprising P1, as their entry level, followed by the Planar 3 (that would have to remain, after so many awards!) The planar 6 could also stay, and then there would remain the Planar 10, and the NAIA, as it’s yet to be released, and could keep the Naid as their showpiece/ Arab Emirates/ Enthusiast, m.m.t.s people turntable.
Re their amps. The Elicit could go, leaving the entry level Io, and keep the Elex (Brio could also go)
The Aethos would remain (got one, and it’s good) and above that, the new rumoured top of the range pre/power (Osiris 2?) would remain.
Or do we continue to need this large range?

I personally think Regas product line is about right, just need a replacement for the Brio & Apollo with the new style casework.

A streamer would be nice, maybe a new DAC with optional streaming board?

Nearly forgot, a new body for the Exact that doesn't look like it came from a Lego set would be good.

TS

What we need is a sub £1000 (preferably sub £800) CD player, now the Apollo got pulled from the range.

Is anyone making the CD mechanisms anymore ?..( lasers and drawer drivers etc ) I know that Philips stopped making them quite a while ago.

Where would Rega go to get the mech's ?

Future supplies was one of the big factors Rega considered when choosing their CD mech. The used one which is cheap, very common and produced in high numbers. The same one is used in all of their players and they bought a lot of them. I expect Rega will be able to service their current CD players for a long time.

Is there a replacement for the Exact in the offing? I think I might have picked up on something to that effect but maybe just internet rubbish...

As long as it keeps the signature sound. The Exact is my all-time favorite cartridge. If they could keep it as it is but add a little more detail and tidy up the frequency extremes I'd be delighted. Don't mess with the weight, body and tonality. It's one of the most musically satisfying cartridges I've ever heard.

Denon/Marantz , Teac , Blue Tiger & many others , but would Rega have the volumes required !

What differences could be between rega p3 anniversary /p25 with exact2.
I began to save money, until November I can't.
I have mono.
Monophonic records, or mononucleosis?

P25 was Rega's first anniversary product and is a lovely thing to be cherished. I would expect P3 50th anniversary (for there was a 40th anniversary version too) to sound somewhat better, however, I wouldn't expect it to completely put P25 to shame, more 'evolutionary' than 'revolutionary'. At least based upon my having heard Planar 25 with Exact, as well as Planar 3 (2016)/Exact 2, the latter both with and without Neo, although not within the same decade, let alone the same dem, so please take this as 'educated guess' based upon possible variances in my auditory memory, hearing acuity, and subjective preferences. IOW, my 2 pence, one of which may be a bit more tarnished than the other.

If your P25 has had the 24V upgrade kit fitted it can also take the Rega PSU (new Neo or older TT-PSU).

If not that route may not make sense costwise now compared to the new P3 package - beautiful as the P25 is though.

Just counted the products listed on the Rega site, thirty-eight in total not including accessories and that’s with the now reduced loudspeaker model range. Quite astonishing for a UK specialist hifi manufacturer.

A styling update of the Osiris amp to match the lesser models would be welcome ( never seen the amplifier red display in person but it looks a bit 70’s Texas calculator in pics).
One of my ( many) quirks is my appreciation of real wood finishes on loudspeakers and Rega were right up there with some of the best walnut finishes I’ve seen. I hope with the introduction of the new phenolic material used in the Kyte doesn’t mean we lose those wood finish options in future loudspeaker models.

Performance, aesthetics and cost go hand in hand with Rega kit, hence the move away from expensive cabinets. IIRC the original Ela came in a textured non wood finish so forthcoming designs (if they happen) will be interesting. Purists may want to go for the cherry veneer RS10 https://www.rega.co.uk/products/rs10.

I'm still on the hunt for some mint used Cherry RS10's.
Absolutely not worth the silly RRP though.
That’s how I felt RR but when I saw some advertised 90 minutes away a couple of years ago I had to go and listen and bought them on the spot. As 3rd owner I paid £2100. I have to say they look much classier in the flesh than that link suggests, as the 2nd owner had cosmetic damage repaired it could be because they were given a deep polish and lacquer but never having seen another pair I wouldn’t know.

It’s unlikely I will ever move to something else, big enough to have scale and weight to the music in modest rooms, small enough to not like historical monoliths standing there and they seem to like every increase in source quality they get. I love that much of the FR is handled by the BMR giving almost electrostatic clarity as the marketing says.

It’s very interesting for me having lived with or home demmed various speakers across the decades (Isobariks, Opera Superpavarotti, LSA2, Cadence Amaya, ML Aerius i, Vandersteen 3, Shahinian Arc) how the system I put together a couple of years ago reveals more insight into the music. Forget which part of source, amp or speakers is doing what exactly, it’s simply that I find the RS10 very satisfying and up there with anything else I enjoyed.
