A thread to recommend stuff on the BBC

A bit 'unbelievable' ?

He was about 30 stone, half dead and managed to climb out of a well with vertical walls that looked at least 20" high.

Aye I was a wee bit skeptical mysel:D

He’s a great actor/presence though; Robby Coltrane with attitude sort of thingy. We complained all the way to the end is my summary.
Enjoying ‘Hidden Assets’ a good yarn and some great acting. I’m still avoiding pay tv (except for the licence)

We’re currently watching First Responder with Martin Freeman on iPlayer, it’s excellent once you get your head round it not being a comedy.

I know you wrote this months ago, but I’ve only just seen it. And sorry, I know it’s not what you meant, but picturing a 30-stone man’s desperate struggle to climb out of a well the best part of two feet deep made me laugh.

For those of us of a certain vintage BBC iPlayer is showing Ken Loach’s 1965 “Up The Junction” from its Wednesday Play series.
I hope they show others from that series like “Cathy Come Home.”

Hidden Wales is a fascinating documentary series about industrial and other remains, presented by Will Millard:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/b0bt3z4f/hidden-wales-with-will-millard

'Will Millard discovers Wales's hidden history by exploring forgotten, secret and almost inaccessible locations that show the country as it has never been seen before'

incredible programme . had no idea we produced millions of litres of mustard gas ready to drop on germans if they invaded . and that picture storage gallery in the quarry is amazing too

Started watching that Maxwell documentary last night, pretty decent but nothing much that I didn't know before except I wasn't really aware that he had lost his entire family in the Holocaust or that there 'wasn't one single Jew left' in his village after the war.

Must have been heartbreaking to endure that.

Wow , had an auntie in surrey lost all her pension to maxwell

Aye the guy was a scumbag no doubt about that he was a KGB and MI6 agent at the same time.

In the documentary some civil servant/MI6 punter said that he's never known MI6 buy a company for someone before, they bought Maxwell a publishing house in Berlin.

He actually rented a huge mansion from Oxford city council.

His 65th birthday was attended by judges, Harold Wilson and numerous labour high hied yins, think he said that 5000 people would be attending.

Everything about him was fake.

I think he was killed by the Russians, think someone on here mentioned who was at his funeral ie the Israeli PM and the head of Mossad etc.

Maxwell was afforded a lavish funeral in Israel, attended by Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, Israeli President Chaim Herzog, at least six serving and former heads of Israeli intelligence[61] and many dignitaries and politicians, both government and opposition, and was buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.[62][63][64] Herzog delivered the eulogy and the Kaddish was recited by his fellow Holocaust survivor, friend and longtime attorney Samuel Pisar.[65]

Mossad allegations; Vanunu case[edit]
The Foreign Office suspected that Maxwell was a secret agent of a foreign government, possibly a double agent or a triple agent, and "a thoroughly bad character and almost certainly financed by Russia". He had known links to the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), to the Soviet KGB, and to the Israeli intelligence service Mossad.[52] Six serving and former heads of Israeli intelligence services attended Maxwell's funeral in Israel, while Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir eulogised him and stated: "He has done more for Israel than can today be told."[53]

Shortly before Maxwell's death, a former employee of Israel's Military Intelligence Directorate, Ari Ben-Menashe, approached a number of news organisations in Britain and the US with the allegation that Maxwell and the Daily Mirror's foreign editor, Nicholas Davies, were both long-time agents for Mossad. Ben-Menashe also claimed that, in 1986, Maxwell informed the Israeli Embassy in London that Mordechai Vanunu revealed information about Israel's nuclear capability to The Sunday Times, then to the Daily Mirror. Vanunu was subsequently kidnapped by Mossad and smuggled to Israel, convicted of treason and imprisoned for eighteen years.[54]

Ben-Menashe's story was ignored at first, but eventually journalist Seymour Hersh of The New Yorker repeated some of the allegations during a press conference in London held to publicise The Samson Option, Hersh's book about Israel's nuclear weapons.[55] On 21 October 1991, Labour MP George Galloway and Conservative MP Rupert Allason (also known as espionage author Nigel West) agreed to raise the issue in the House of Commons under parliamentary privilege protection,[a] which in turn allowed British newspapers to report events without fear of libel suits. Maxwell called the claims "ludicrous, a total invention" and sacked Davies.[56] A year later, in Galloway's libel settlement against Mirror Group Newspapers (in which he received "substantial" damages), Galloway's counsel announced that the MP accepted that the group's staff had not been involved in Vanunu's abduction. Galloway referred to Maxwell as "one of the worst criminals of the century".[5

I can't help seeing some parallels between Trump and Maxwell. The questionable business ethics for one and the sense that the could anything they liked.

Having watched them all yesterday, all the way to Ghislaine's trial. It is difficult to understand the relationship between her and Epstein.

Epstein was clearly a mossad agent he came from nowhere to become a billionaire almost overnight then was obviously protected by someone.

Just started watching the series "Silent Witness" on BBC iplayer. Never watched them before so that should keep us occupied till Ozark returns. Enjoyed "Darkness, Those who kill" too.
