PS Why such a difference between Russell and Hamilton? Don’t understand that.

Mercedes have a car that is currently problematic, to try and find ways round these problems, most notably the bouncing, they are trying a multitude of setups split across the two cars and today altered the setup on Hamilton's car with his agreement. It worked well enough in P3, but by the evening in quali when they made further changes in the same direction the rear became too loose and Hamilton was stranded lap time wise. Russell's car is running a different setup that works better in his hands. It's simply one driver has a set up that they are relatively comfortable with and the other doesn't.

So, will Hamilton take the hit of a grid penalty/pit lane start, and have his car’s set up changed to something close to Russell’s?

The Merc looked undrivable so it would pay Hamilton to take a penalty and change the set up , no point in driving the race with the car have zero chance of getting points

There is no guarantee that RUS' setup will work well in the race, or that Lewis' won't.

It could of course be that Lewis' setup was a bad direction to go in but they would not have done that unless they really felt that it was likely to work (it did work comparatively better in FP3).

It is very early with these tyres to have a good understanding of how to get them working well (balanced with a good level of grip) and so even knowing the weather forecast and modelling track surface temperature and the effect that all these things will have on the tyres is not going to be that accurate.

The porpoising has made getting a good setup even more difficult as compromises have had to be made, which will vary from session to session.

It'll be nice to see a real WC this year rather than a gifted one..

I'm hoping Merc pull something out of the bag but the further they fall behind I am not even sure the GOAT will be able to recover. Should be a fun race today though either way.

Hopefully Hamilton’s car will come alive in the race with higher fuel load etc, and he’ll grab a few points. If reliability comes into play, and Houthi missiles miss the track by nine miles or more, who knows what might happen?

Regardless of this attack, it's disgraceful F1 goes on in KSA.

Qatar WC is not much better, by a margin, but equally disturbing.

I agree, Its very much an European policy to be inclusive of nations to create harmony, but thats backfired somewhat with Russia.

Still F1 is about the money primarily and theres big money in those sands.

Will Buxton thinks he's Freddie Mercury today, he's got the half microphone stand going on.
