Very nice, not seen/heard that vid before. Still my fav F1 engine noise was the 2000/2001 McLaren Mercedes, that unearthly howl was something special.

On board footage doesn’t really do it any justice at all.

I don’t have favourites as such, just a load of engines that I’ve heard in person and would love to hear again. Among them:

Works spec Metro 6R4, especially in a forest
Audi Sport Quattro E2
Lancia Delta S4
BRM V16
DFV and Ferrari flat 12, especially on the over-run
The V12 Honda and Ferrari F1 engines in the 90s
Top Fuel and Funny Car nitro engines (astonishing)

Nothing comes close to that Mazda imho, though I can't remember having heard the Peugeot.

That's terrifying. With only a metro to protect you (I used to own one) it's little different from the IOM TT.

There’s a very good roll cage in there, but in the mid-80s roll cages weren’t really fit for the task.

Did anyone see the Car SOS episode with a Metro 6R4? They got in touch with David Gillanders, ‘87 British rally champ and driver of the car being restored. He reckoned that over just one stage the handling deteriorated, and by the end of 20 miles you’d have half the brakes and half the suspension you started out with! I don’t know how true this is but they also said the Austin Rover total budget for the project was less than some of the other manufacturers tyre budget - an amazing effort!
