I have always hoped for a (relatively) bloodless end to fascism in the US. I knew it would take a long time, but I always assumed that each successive generation would be more diverse, just a bit smarter and, therefore, less likely to fall prey to such an idiotic ideology. Like Dimitry just said, we outnumber them by at least 8 million (and hopefully quite a bit more). In 4 years, that should be over 12 million. My hope was that, eventually, the white supremacists would just sort of dwindle, and die off. But now I’m convinced that will never happen, and there are simply too many of these bastards who are hell bent on violence, no matter how futile.

My long way of saying I agree!

I hope the fascists and fascist wannabes continue solely on this path of public protest followed by mass arrest. My biggest concern is for next McVeigh.

Not all Trump voters are white supremacist fascists. Some are more ordinary conservatives, Republicans, just in denial about how bad Trump is. Some are just going along with the Trump train because that's what 'their people' are doing, without any great political insight at all. Got a good bunch to run down to the Capitol and act up, but the hard core who were enlisted in the plan at some level and went in? Much smaller. How many hard core fascists among the Trump voters? A definite minority of that 74 million, I am not sure how what proportion. The smaller the better of course.

We need 'Nuremberg trials,' to paint these guys as the evildoers they are. The disgrace must be utter. That will go a long way toward waking up the soft-core followers. I hope.

It is a global thing. Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and countless in the “media” such as the Daily Mail, Daily Express, Katie Hopkins, Yaxley Lennon, Britain First, Guido Fawkes etc etc are its organisers, ring-leaders and cheerleaders here. They are all the same thing, all share links back to its root in the USA Tea Party movement, Steve Bannon etc. We have seen exact mirrors of Trump’s contempt for law an order with Johnson’s government so blatantly breaking the law and lying to the population and the Queen, plus a truly terrifying ongoing bonfire of human rights and civil liberties thanks to the success of the inherently fascist Brexit project. We have also seen the violence and thuggery. The UK may well have jumped the shark as we have nothing close to the calibre of Obama, Biden etc to counter it. Our main political opposition is meek, cowering and complicit. It is an enabler. A normaliser. We may well have lost already.
 
I wonder how Trump supporters explain their apparent union with 6MWE and Camp Auschwitz members? I hope the Republican Party will indeed be split to reveal the extremists and "National Socialists" but expect these groups to go under the radar for a while so as to conserve their route to power for future use. These extremists will be looking for a new Republican cheerleader. Candidates? Democrats have to focus on the extremes of the Republican movement and paint the entire party with this same extremist brush to force them to be more discerning in the future and open up a rift. Meanwhile I see no sign of Jewish Groups attacking the Republican Party or Trump over these extremist bedfellows. Did they make some sort of deal with Trump? How will they be feeling about his Stormtroopers now?

Social media need to take a fair amount of responsibility for this as this is how conspiracy theories, misinformation, lies and propaganda spread fast. In the UK, the MSM are also complicit when a talking head spouting crazy s**t isn't challenged, because "balance". This normalises extremism and is also corrosive in a drip-drip way.

The demonstration shown in the link, with its call by a MAGA speaker to destroy the GOP, was the Dec 12 declaration of war by the Trumpist Fascist faction. You will note that the pre-Trump conservative movement has been corrupt, adopting dog-whistle racism, voter suppression and pay-to-play corporate welfare. But the new full-blown fascist faction now strives to supplant the regular Republicans. This shows that once you abandon some principles, you open the way for those willing to abandon all of them.

TV, when it came in, was fairly strictly regulated. We need to bring that back and include the Internet.

The prosecution of the Jan 6 plotters should be taken up to the gravitas and moral authority of the Nuremburg trials, to include hanging the chief traitors.
