http://toweringofficial.bandcamp.com/album/obscuring-manifestation
Top drawer debut album.

Vaura "Sables"
http://profoundlorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/sables
A soft spot for this band, always trying to do stuff from a different angle.

Maestus "Deliquesce"
http://maestus.bandcamp.com/album/deliquesce
One of the best doom albums of the year, the title track is epic.

Urza "The Omnipresence of Loss"
http://solitudeproductions.bandcamp.com/album/the-omnipresence-of-loss
Excellent debut from ex-Ophis Olli.

Mord'A'Stigmata "Dreams of Quiet Places"
http://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dreams-of-quiet-places-2

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Ravenstale "Morphine Dead Gardens"

Track 1 "As an Empty Shell" is an all time favourite, this album is very special to me.

Profetus "The Sadness of Time Passing"
http://avantgardemusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-sadness-of-time-passing
So looked forward to this, Profetus can produce moments of pure class.

Slow "Dantalion"
http://slowdooom.bandcamp.com/album/vi-dantalion
Track 4 "Futilité" is amongst the best funeral doom tracks ever written.

Blasphematory "Depths of the Obscurity"
http://blasphematory.bandcamp.com/album/depths-of-the-obscurity-2
This has been played an awful lot, its just so good.

Sinmara "Hvísl Stjarnanna"

strong release from these guys.

Temple Koludra "Seven Sirens to a Lost Archetype"
http://templekoludra.bandcamp.com/album/seven-sirens-to-a-lost-archetype-black-metal
Flawless.

That's it, hooray, I hear you all shout! OK, I am out of here, off to visit Father Christmas.

I am sure BMB will remind me of stuff I have missed, I know I have missed something, I always do!

Over to you guys... .

I thought this might have been rated slightly higher, especially as someone kept raving about it!;) As the year has gone on it has gained a little more traction with me, definitely a grower.

The EoYLs have Fvneral Fvkk high in their ranks and I have to say I agree. The Isole album is excellent, as always, but the FF raises the bar. It isn't surprising when the band has members from Ophis and Crimson Swan.
Any watcher here who wallows in doom needs to seriously check this band out.

I’m just giving Fvneral Fvkk it’s first full play, not my usual cup of tea, but liking this.

I do highly rate the Sinmara J, its just been a quality year and I restricted my list to a Top 10, something had to give somewhere along the line. I thought you'd notice that the Panzerfaust wasn't included in the list, I raved about that one too! :)
I did surprise me a little that you purchased the Funeral Fvkk, not being a doom man at heart, but really pleased that you heard its quality, it's amongst one of the best doom records of all time IMHO.

After a ridiculously large amount of back-and-forth with my Top 10 albums of 2019 I decided to give up.

What follows are a list of albums that, for one reason or another, kept me captivated during 2019:

Vanum - Ageless Fire
Primal. Melodic. Atmospheric. Black metal. Nuff said.

Vukari - Aevum

The perfect follow-on album to Vanum’s Ageless Fire.

Véhémence - Par le Sang Versé
French medieval themed black metal that contains catchy as hell riffs.

Imperium Dekadenz - When We Are Forgotten

These guys seem to have slipped under the radar for quite some time. Songs crammed full of melody and uplifting choruses. While nothing reaches the heights of previous album Dis Manibvs opening tracks, overall it’s a more consistent album from start to finish.

ROSK - Remnants

Intimate, acoustic, post-metal.

Marche Funèbre - Into the Arms of Darkness

Not sure how to pigeonhole this album, Death? Black? Doom? Who cares, great song writing with singalong choruses.

Misþyrming - Algleymi

Melodic, riff laden, black metal.

Firelink - The Inveterate Fire

A perfect blend of melodic black/death. An album this good really deserved a less cheesy album cover.

Sielunvihollen - Kuolonkylväjä

An absolute black metal stomper. Bought their entire back catalogue off the back of this album.

Dauþuz - MONVMENTVM

Black metal songs about mountain dwelling dwarves rock! (Pun intended)

Nornír - Verdandi

Outstanding debut album. This is how you make traditional black metal relevant without losing its identity.

Illum Adora - ...Of Serpentine Forces

Similar to the above album, a throwback to black metals second wave.

Божевільний - Покинутий одинак
Occasionally feels like your listening to a Red Hot Chilli Peppers album before the sobbing and blubbering starts (seriously!). The album is a little uneven, with the best tracks all following the same formula, but somehow, pulls it off.

Winterfylleth- The Hallowing of Heirdom

Taking the medieval theme one step further by ditching electricity. A fully acoustic album that’s a pleasure to unwind to at the end of the night.

Wolcensmen - Fire in the White Stone

As the album above, but ramp up the folky theme and add lashings of tweeness.

YES! The MetaL thread is back!

I'll check some of those out (you didn't really sell the RHCP one but now I'm intrigued)

It was Cryptopsy's None So Vile for me today.

Great list BMB, I always knew the 3 V's were in the running! I really need to check out the MF album again, I recently purchased the Officium Triste album which, I believe, is a similar style and loved it.

...and guys, hopefully you have noticed a pattern in lists between BMB and I, both lists have Vanum and ROSK in their top 10 (Vukari was close as well) so there you have it, check them out.

My list could have easily been two or three times longer, 2019 was a very good year.

Two EP’s really stood out:

Délétère - Theovorator: Babelis Testamentum
Hellripper - Black Arts & Alchemy

@egodissolve I’ll give Officium Triste a listen.

We’re only just over a month in to 2020 and I think I’ve found an album likely to feature on my end of year list!

I had music on in the background while pottering around at home when the track Demon from this album...
https://swmm.bandcamp.com/album/trail-of-the-fallen ...came on. I stopped what I was doing and sat down and didn’t move until the album finished. The jaunty, seafaring track Queen Anne’s Revenge demands to be played loud!
