Metal

@egodissolve two of the three albums you mentioned are in my wish list, Serpent Noir rings a bell but I’m not sure why. I’ll check it out in due time.
Don't pass on the Nox BMB because they are on a predominantly death metal label. They are black at heart, the last album is a favourite of mine. They are Greek so that speaks volumes! ;)

@egodissolve likewise with Ossaert!

I’m currently waiting patiently for half a dozen albums in my wish list to get released. For some unknown reason I thought several were being released today, but turns out I got the dates wrong and I’ve still got another two weeks to wait!

I'll tell you something BMB, I do think the Serpent Noir is rather special. It's going to take some beating this year IMHO, it's got everything. Shaarimoth is the still the best LP in this sub genre but the Serpent runs it close...

Certain albums just catch me out, you know, sneak up on you and scare the living crap out of you. For example, Consummation's wonderful "Solar Hunter", Dodecohedron's "Kwintessens" and Desolate Shrine. Well, another band could be joining these lofty ranks...Nawaharjan.
Their album "Lokabrenna" is class but with a different twist. Its more in line with bands such as UADA, Shrine of Insanabilis but it has a dark, sinister edge that bleeds into the atmosphere that Consummation, Dodecohedron and DS can create.
Apparently, 11 years in the making, its a majestic work. If you want destructive black metal that pulls you in kicking and screaming I wholeheartedly recommend this one guys.

@egodissolve I keep meaning to check Nawaharjan out.

In the meantime, after your love of last years Imperial Triumphant - Vile Luxury, I feel it’s only right that I introduce you to more saxophone and jazzy metal.

A.S.M.G show the correct way to use the saxophone in Black Metal, both their albums are now available on bandcamp, with their second album Hostis Universi Generis becoming a firm favourite of mine since it’s original release.

If you’re feeling daring, check this out...

Traditional Japanese flute led, avant garde, free-form jazzy Metal. Trust me, it’s a thing!

BMB, did you just mention the words "saxophone", "flutes" and "jazzy"?
Jeepers J, you are scaring the s**t out of me! I remember buying a White Ward cd a number of moons ago and the sax just ruined it for me, didn't listen to it again. As for Imperial, no love for this monstrosity, I refrain from discussing the subject!!
...and for the record J, what is a flute? Also I wouldn't know "free-form jazz" if it jumped up and poked me in the eye :)
I did give ASMG a quick listen when I saw you purchase it on BC...I will revisit it...and will endeavour to embrace it charm...I will report back!

@egodissolve I bought Sentient Divide’s last album shortly after it came out, I think I saw it in your collection at the time.

Ok, the Japanese flute metal....erm...can I give this one a miss...I tried, I really did...

I really thought you’d like this!:D:D:D

Definitely start with ASMG’s second album, Hostis Universi Generis, it even features (what sounds like) a didgeridoo!

I thought I’d take advantage of Bandcamp’s decision to waive their cut on sales today to help artists effected by the current situation, but it looks like everyone is doing the same as the site keeps going down!

After numerous attempts to buy music I’ve given up!

Its great that the music community has come together to support the bands out there BMB, it's rare for Bandcamp to be generous. The site was slow, it was difficult at times and frustrating but I spent as much as I could afford.
Take care all out there watching our tiny metal forum, we will get through this together. Go to Bandcamp and buy, buy, buy, stockpile metal!

@egodissolve I think this runs until 7am(?) UK time and as it’s not a school night I can stay up late or, heaven forbid, get up early enough tomorrow to buy something! I have plenty of albums in my bandcamp Wishlist and it’s was payday today!

I’ve been fortunate that my job hasn’t been effected at the moment. Today’s latest announcement has given me a slight comfort net should the situation change, although I’ve had to put redecoration & refurnishing my living room, a new TV, a new Hi-Fi rack as well as the purchase of a new streamer on hold indefinitely but it’s totally a “first world problem” in the current situation. I can only imagine what this has done to many musicians income.

I do hope everyone that contributes to this thread is doing ok.

Time for some life-affirming black in the form of Imperium Dekadenz’s Still I Rise.
