New car choice again.

Depends on colour in all honesty but it is not that bad compared to some other butts. The other 90% makes up for it if you don't like the rear.

Now this is a mess of angles :

But what about my VAG embargo ? :(

I have dealt with Skoda for servicing for the last 4 years & they have been brilliant, not unlike VW who were arseholes when I needed to deal with them after buying the current car & then being shafted by the dealer in question as well as VW customer services.

Damn & blast it, I'd have the Superb at the drop of a hat but my pig headedness is now kicking in.

Others to try still so we shall see what gives over the next few weeks.

Was tempted by the new Skoda Superb but that is VW Group so was binned today no matter how well thought of they are.

Get the Superb. You know you want to. And IMO you won't regret it.

Currently have both a Lexus and a Kia.
Lexus CS (at Milton Keynes at least) has been fantastic in the past, sales inquiries have got follow up calls and the time i just rocked up to see if they had any trade in LS400's 'out the back' going for a song before auction was met with a polite 'sorry' and a long discussion with the sales guy about the brand and him taking my number (and calling me back when they did have one in - but i'd got something else by then)
Lexus cars are not 'drivers' cars in the autobahn-storming way that BMW are (unless you go for an 'f' variant) they are refined cruisers that put comfort first - a far more sensible proposition given modern motoring is 70% stuck in traffic and 30% speed cameras.
Kia are damn reliable but a bit 'brittle' on the inside (very well equipped though) the warranty is 7 years / 100k miles if you do high miles then the hyundai variant is probably a better bet with a 5 year / unlimited mile warranty. Any faults on our car including a suspension issue have been rectified FOC with only consumables such as brakes, tyres and normal servicing having to be paid for.
I'd recommend either subject to cost and purpose.

Edited to add:
The 'CVT' on lexus hybrids are not conventional CVT gear boxes with cones and bands, they are a planetary gearset which takes power from 2 electric motors and the petrol engine and turns it into forward motion. See here for more details http://eahart.com/prius/psd/ . Batteries, motors and inverters are seen as incredibly reliable into the 200+k miles territory with the battery being the most likely component to fail. Batteries can be repaired at a cost of a few hundred pounds by specialists now popping up.

What happened to the exhaust on the Passat anyway, was it damaged or did it corrode?

No damage & no corrosion, diagnosed as internal baffle resonance which is very annoying as it is a constant loud tizz in mid-range revs equating to most statutory speed limits in any gear.

Like a bloody cuckoo hammering away at your head.

You should have given it a bash with a mallet. That'd fix it!

I just bought a bloody boring 2007 Toyota Avensis diesel

It was too much of a good deal to turn down, though I'll be trying to offload for profit as despite it being perfectly competent it's mind-numbingly dull!

with a power band so narrow, overtaking is a nightmare IIR. Mine lasted 8 months!
I've just gone a got another Honda CVR..decent car...should see us through to time of no dogs anyway.

So you are a car dealer now? :D

Failing that, here is a link to some nice trousers to wear in your new Toyota

I've only driven it for about thirty mins as it went straight in for brake pads, but oddly enough I didn't feel it lacked in power, though I know what you mean about the power band; it's one dollop of torque and then out of puff.

I guess changing up at the right time is the way..
