War declared, Israel v Palestine...

We are outraged and strongly condemn the killing of our colleague, Fadi Al-Wadiya, in an attack this morning in Gaza City. The attack killed Fadi, along with 5 other people including 3 children, while he was cycling to work, near the MSF clinic where he was providing care.

Fadi was a 33-year-old physiotherapist and father of three. He joined MSF in 2018. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

Fadi’s loss marks the sixth killing of an MSF staff member in Gaza since 7 October 2023.

“Killing a healthcare worker while on his way to provide vital medical care to wounded victims of the endless massacres across Gaza is beyond shocking; it’s cynical and abhorrent,” says Caroline Seguin, MSF operations manager for Palestine.

This attack is yet another brutal example of the senseless killing of Palestinian civilians and healthcare workers in Gaza. We are continuing to verify the details of this horrific incident.

I don't think even Binyaden is that stupid. Because even if they manage to get away with it, it'll just motivate Iran even more to get nukes and then proceed to wipe Israel out as a long term aim. Israel is a physically small country with a small population, it would be trivially easy to literally eradicate the country with nukes. In fact it wouldn't even be necessary, just hit Israels nuclear power stations exposing their cores and make 60% of Israel uninhabitable for 100 years. Easily done with conventional weapons.

It’s not that he is stupid, it’s that he will suffer no consequences if he does. He has already dropped the equivalent of five Hiroshima's on Gaza, killed tens of thousands of civilian's and still the West calls Israel an ally. From his POV a few nukes is just double or quits and if he quits he goes to prison. It’s looking bad.

India exports rockets, explosives to Israel amid Gaza war, documents reveal

As New Delhi attempts to walk a diplomatic tightrope, documents seen by Al Jazeera and company statements suggest Israel is receiving Indian weapons as it wages war on Gaza.

Norway pension fund divests from Caterpillar Inc due to Israeli military sales

The largest pension fund in Norway has announced it will no longer invest in Caterpillar Inc over the US construction equipment manufacturer’s sales to the Israeli military, Reuters news agency reports.
KLP said it had excluded Caterpillar from its portfolio over concerns the Israeli military is using its heavy machinery to carry out human rights abuses and violate international law, including the demolition of homes and infrastructure, in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
KLP said it had engaged in dialogue with Caterpillar over several months, but did not receive satisfactory assurances on the issue, resulting in a June 17 decision to divest shares worth 728 million Norwegian crowns ($69m).

Israel to impose extra tax on salaried workers this month to address budget deficit: Report

Israel’s government will impose an exceptional tax on salaried workers in June to help reduce the budget deficit caused by the country’s war on Gaza, according to the Israel Hayom newspaper.
The tax will be equivalent to one working day, deducted from employees’ June salaries, the report said.
The development affects both public and private sector workers.
Earlier this month, Israel’s Finance Ministry announced that its budget deficit for the past 12 months had jumped to 137.7 billion shekels ($37bn), equivalent to 7.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

Even in a small area like Gaza GENOCIDE and destroying every building costs money. USA will pay for most but those poor zionists might have to pay a little blood tax.

Had a conversation on this very thing with two of the offspring last night - trying to figure out what next for Gaza / Palestine.

Their view is that the Israelis will continue until Gaza is virtually flattened, and in the ongoing absence of support from the West, the remaining civilians will ultimately be forced into one of the neighbouring states to avoid starvation. After which, in the absence of any meaningful sanctions from the US or Europe, it will be pretty much business as usual for Israel - no rebuilding, no move towards 2-state solution - just back to business as usual for the next decade or so.

A pretty appaling vista - but does anybody on here realistically anticipate a different outcome ?

The US has transferred security-related aid totalling $6.5bn to Israel since October 7, The Washington Post reports, citing an unnamed senior Biden administration official.

The official added that almost half of that military aid was provided last month alone.
“This is a massive, massive undertaking,” the official said.

The Post said the official was disclosing the previously unannounced figures to show the depth of US support for Israel amid accusations from Netanyahu that Washington is withholding arms.

The official said the figures were cited in discussions between senior White House officials and Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in Washington, DC, this week.

Caterpillar equipment ‘extensively used’ to bulldoze Palestinian homes: UN expert

Balakrishnan Rajagopal, the UN special rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, has welcomed the Norway Pension fund’s move to divest from Caterpillar over concerns its heavy equipment is being used by the Israeli military to violate human rights in Palestine.
Caterpillar equipment is “extensively used” in the demolitions of Palestinian homes, Rajagopal said in a post on X.
Last week, UN experts, including Rajagopal, urged financial institutions to review investments in companies, including Caterpillar, that are supplying military equipment and weapons to Israel or risk “complicity in potential atrocity crimes”.

For reasons I've never understood, I get things from Quora. This one today horrified me:

The heinous Israel army is demolishing Gaza now. Will Gaza’s innocent population be entitled for reparation under the international law?
Knesset member Avigdor Lieberman
There are no innocents in Gaza.
For years, good people with good intentions and it's safe to say naive, believed in and promoted the idea of peace between us and the Palestinians. People who believed with all their hearts in the idea of two states and thought that normal people who dream the same dream live in Gaza.
A dream that shattered into pieces on October 7, 2023.
After recovering from the initial shock of the terrible massacre and with the revelation of the evidence of the atrocities committed by the Nazi terrorists, there is no shadow of a doubt that those who took part in the attack on the Gaza Strip, provided the intelligence on the homes of the residents and led the mob in the second wave of looting and destruction, were Gazans who worked in the settlements they invaded. They made a living and ate in the homes of the massacred residents, those residents who helped them and their families when they were sick and took care of transporting them from Gaza to Israel for life-saving treatments in hospitals in Israel.
The late Vivian Silver, from Kibbutz Be’eri, was one of those people who worked for peace and for the people of Gaza. She established aid programs for Gazans, made sure the workers were paid fair wages, transported the sick to hospital treatment and a few days before the massacre organized a peace rally in Jerusalem where Israeli women marched alongside women. On the Black Saturday, she was murdered with terrible cruelty by the very people she had worked for over the years, and none of the residents of Gaza condemned the murder or expressed shock.
Some will say that the residents of Gaza are afraid of Hamas and that is why we have not heard any condemnation from them, but the scenes we are witnessing in the last few days every evening when our abductees are transferred to the Red Cross and the testimonies of those who have returned from captivity, leave no room for doubt.
Hamas receives overwhelming support in Gaza.
The enraged crowd that insults and spits on the abductees, our small children who say they were beaten by Gazans of all ages and the demonstrations of joy and support for terrorists throughout Gaza, testify to the cruelty of the population that educates its children to hate the State of Israel and trains a new generation of terrorists and supporters of terrorism whose goal is the destruction of the State of Israel for all its citizens.
Gaza is a wasp's nest of terrorists.
There is complete synchronization between Hamas and "innocent" citizens and the story of Roni Kariboy, who was kidnapped from the music festival by the bad guys, illustrates this. Roni managed to escape from captivity and hide for a few days, until Gazans caught him and returned him to his captors.
This is probably the reason why the terrorists marked the legs of the kidnapped children with the exhaust pipe of a motorcycle in order to make it easy to identify them in case they escape.
Another evidence of the full cooperation of the population can be found in the corridors of Shifa Hospital, where the hospital director and other senior doctors helped the terrorists hide hostages and turned the hospital into a haven for terrorists. But it's not only in hospitals that you find collaborators, also in private homes of UNRWA medical professionals and teachers where hostages were held in terrible conditions.
These things are also reflected in social networks, in the Arab world and in Gaza. 99.9% of all publications are words of praise and wall-to-wall support for Hamas and the horrible acts of October 7th.
Now someone show me where innocent people who are not involved in terrorism are hiding in the Gaza Strip.

I know Lieberman to be an extremist on Gaza, but if a sizable proportion of Israelis even partially think like this, there is no hope for Palestinians. Extermination looms...

This is sadly a fairly mainstream view in the Israel apartheid state at present. The reason we are witnessing a genocide and ethnic cleansing is there is a will and intent for precisely that coming from the top down in Israel and supported by a majority. The current behaviour of “settler” terrorists in the West Bank, with full support of IDF death squads, illustrates the mindset perfectly. Israel in 2024 is a radicalised fundamentalist apartheid state currently intent on genocidal expansion. The evidence is insurmountable. There is no denying the behaviour or the intent. The receipts are everywhere.

^ half Israelis are Ashkenazi Jews who are recent (last 50 years) immigrants from ex-USSR, USA and Europe. They have no empathy or understanding of Palestinians.

Anyone else concerned the numbers don't add up. The pre-war population of Gaza was over 2m, 40k said to be dead and intentified (of course there will be many more that haven't been found or identified) but only 1m or so displaced from Rafah. Were is everyone else? Could the numbers of dead really be catastrophic?

Could the numbers of dead really be catastophic?

The bombing is so vast and indiscriminate the numbers will clearly be far higher than reported. I’ve read many suggestions that the totals are more than Dresden, Hamberg and London in WWII combined. More destruction than Hiroshima, Nagasaki etc. All on a tiny densely populated strip of land. The intention is clear. Israel are succeeding in a truly genocidal act of environmental destruction. An act of erasure. One of the worst crimes in human history, and we are all complicit.

Rights groups sue Netherlands again over F-35 parts to Israel

A trio of rights groups has taken the Dutch government back to court, arguing that a ban on supplying F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel is not being respected in practice.
In a landmark verdict in February, an appeals court ordered the Netherlands to stop delivering parts for fighter jets used by Israel in its offensive in the Gaza Strip.
The court said at the time there was a “clear risk” the planes would be involved in breaking international humanitarian law.
But the rights groups are returning to court, saying that the ban has not prevented the parts ending up in Israeli planes.
“Unfortunately, everything indicates that these parts end up in Israel from the Netherlands via other routes,” said Oxfam Novib, one of the groups involved in the case.
The Dutch government “has continued delivering (parts) to other countries, including the United States. And that contravenes the order of the court,” Liesbeth Zegveld, a lawyer representing the rights groups, told the court.
