Truly great albums with no duff moments

King Crimson "Lark's Tongues In Aspic", even though it's ... cough ... prog ... cough ... cough ...

Sad Café - Facades
Barclay James Harvest - Octoberon
Martin Stephenson and the Daintees - Gladsome humour and blue
Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther
Thomas Dolby - Aliens ate my Buick
Suzanne Vega - Suzanne Vega

Just a few that come to mind.

Love this album, Easy Money.....
I saw King Crimson play this one at the Marquee in 1971? I remember
that it featured David Cross and Jamie Muir I think. :)

King Crimson "Lark's Tongues In Aspic", even though it's ... cough ... prog ... cough ... cough ...

The best most perfect album that I've ever heard and the one that all others followed is Kind Of Blue.

After that it's every Bowie Album up until Let's Dance plus, Transformer.

Some great choices already in this thread, to which I'd like to add a couple of Tim Buckley albums.

  • Greetings From L.A.
  • Sefronia

A previous post suggests "A Lamb Lies Down" from Genesis, never did get this, except for the stand out tracks, I'd argue for the post Gabriel, and still Hackett era Genesis albums

  • Trick of the Tail
  • Wind and Wuthering

I didn't see this one yet, either, from Mahivishnu Orchestra

  • The Inner Mounting Flame

Someone mentioned Paul Simon, I've always loved this one :-

  • Hearts and Bones

Finally, I didn't see these from Bruce Springsteen

  • Nebraska
  • Brilliant Disguise

That'll do for now.

"Roll 'em, Smoke 'em, Put Another Line Out" - Patto.

Even 'Mummy' is a great, great track. That is one stoned drunk session which I would like to have witnessed.

No weak moments in the following list, IMHO:

London Calling
Abbey Road
Who's next
Songs in the key of life
Graceland
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Selling England by the pound
So
Machine Head

Had a quick flick through one cube of the expedit and could have grabbed any of these and not found a duff track on them.

Massive attack Blue lines
XX The XX
Kruder Dorfmeister K&D Sessions
Mazzy Star Among My Swan
US3 Broadway and 52nd
Fat Freddys drop Big w
Erykah Badou Badouism

Everything Richmond Fontaine have ever done
Everything Jon Hopkins has ever done

Beastie Boys - Ill communication / pauls boutique

I think the thing about a well structured album is even the so called 'duff' tracks serve a purpose in the 'flow' of an album... Sadly it seems to be a dying art these days :(

Being so subjective an issue I'd be happier saying "albums I'd never skip a track on"

Hunky Dory
Ziggy Stardust
Beggars Banquet
Let it Bleed
London Calling
Otis Blue
Seargent Pepper
Making Movies
Blonde on Blonde
What's Going On
Never Mind the Bollocks
Tapestry

Probably a few more, perfect, not sure, brilliant, certainly!

Close to the Edge - Yes
Dark Side of the Moon - Floyd
Made in Japan - Purple
In Rock - Purple
Led Zeppelin (1) - LZ
Train of Thought, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - Dream Theater
Humble Pie - Rockin' the Fillmore
Quadrophenia, Live at Leeds - Who
Vital Live - Van der Graaf
Still Life - Van der Graaf Generator

in no particular order

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing. Every track a classic and a revelation that music built entirely from samples could be so soulful.

Another and probably one of my own top 5...

Leonard Cohen - New skin for the old ceremony.

Oh and another...

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads

Joe Jackson-Look Sharp
Third World-Journey to Addis
