Clay block question ,
Can one be used on any paint and any paint surface ,
I have a block and a clay mitt , not used either at the moment .

Yes (as long as it's lacquered IIRC); plenty of lubrication (whether that be rapid detailer, snow foam, APC etc)

Always keep it wet and moving

Let us know how you get on!

I've got a clay mitt that I've never used; so once the V8 has had all the suspension & brakes work done to it, I'm going to give it a thorough detail and see how it gets on...

And then it'll be off to my pals bodyshop to get the rear PDC retrofitted and the door handles resprayed!

I've been getting spots on the front of my car. I can't tell if it's raindrops, tree sap (I often have to park next to a bamboo grove), or what. Last year I rubbed the car with a clay bar and put on a layer of paste carnauba wax. The spots quickly came back. This weekend I found that while a scrub with soapy brush would not remove the spots, rubbing them with my finger did have an effect. So I did the clay bar thing on the affected areas again, and waxed the front and roof with Nu-Finish. So far it's still spot-free, but it hasn't rained yet.

The car is a VW Golf R, the color is a metallic white (not my preference but the car was purchased at the end of the 2019 model year). I would describe the spots as "inverse" - small clean round areas surrounded by a greyish film.

Is there a stand-out alloy wheel cleaner for really baked on brake dust?

Ford geniuses thought alloys on a van would be a good idea but I'm not cleaning them every bloody week!!

Thanks, might try the fallout stuff.

I've got the auto glym stuff and a wheel brush and even with some graft it only got rid of about 75%, not helped by the wheel design not allowing for full use of the brush.

Could be that they're beyond saving and the cack has eaten into the surface. But worth a try

That Gtechniq stuff and Autoglym Magma work really well

My good lady says put an ice cube on it for a few minutes which hardens the chewing gum, you can then pick it off with your finger nail. May require a few applications of ice to get it all off.

Thank you. Sounds like a much less destructive idea than spraying with wd40!

Do not use WD40 on upholstery! It'll stain and you'll never get it out (its ok for hair etc)!

Deffo freezing is the best way; ice cubes, salt & a touch of water in a bag; that'll create a very cold, quick freezing hit and hopefully that'd get it hard enough to chip off etc

So after the first major work has been done by my motorsport mechanic pal (every suspension arm/drop link replaced, all new brakes (discs, pads, lines and fluid) all round; the car drives superbly, more so with a fast-road set up & geo tweak :)

It's in on Friday at Automatic Transmissions, Preston to have the ZF5 autobox serviced & then back to my pal the following Monday for a full cooling system overhaul & all the top-end gaskets replaced as it being a typical BMW, it's leaking like a sieve ;) :D

But; it got a thorough cleaning inside the other day and then washed/towel dried last night (simple AG Polar Wash via the snowfoam canon, hand washed & towel dried); that'll do for now as a) it's too bloody hot & b) it's too bloody hot!

Any cure for bloody spiders / spider webs , My car is covered within a few days
You live in the country, and it's the UK. Wipe them up with a cloth, move on. Give it another month, it's harvest in Lincolnshire and you'll be invaded with thunderflies. Thrips, to give them their real name. They'll be in picture frames, windows, the lot. I swear the little sods can get between 2 coats of paint. At least you won't worry about spiders then.

Best car drying towel please? And, to replace ageing sponge, is a lambswool mit better than other types? ta.

I have a lambswool mitt; had a few of them. No matter how you look after them, they always fall apart

I have this one and had it a few times now; does the job:

However I use one of these too and zero issues; but as said above, ALWAYS use a bucket with a grit guard:

As for drying towels; I have quite a few:

These are great for glass/wheels/door shuts etc:

I've a few like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08LS9JLR5/?tag=pinkfishmedia-21

Perfect for the bodywork etc

Also have a few of these and have found them to be superb:

All get washed regularly, 90ºC wash with no conditioner etc

The one that @AudioAl has directed to will do the job nicely too

Quite a lot of work done to the car recently; just had the inside rear out too, to swap out the damaged rear-blind parcel shelf for a standard one (no rear blind); it's a fiddly/faffy job in an E39, not difficult, just lots of steps!

Grom audio BT3 Bluetooth (A2DP, hands-free) kit fitted also

Treated all the leather with Mega Leather Conditioner; comes up superb and dries satin
