Oxygen is a terrible environment for hifi, if for no other reason than corrosion of vital components and connections. Ideally one's listening room would be flushed of oxygen and be an entirely nitrogen environment.

Haha

Sorry I thought this was a Hifi forum. I observed what can only be described as one of the worst installations I have ever seen. So if I can improve someones system performance by simply suggesting he moves his boxes around a bit?
There is absolutely no reason for the power amps with their toroids magnetic fields pointing directly up being directly beneath the turntable.
Put the amps on the floor next to the speakers and move the preamp away from the lingo and I guarantee the improvement will be bigger than changing the 72 for a 52.

In a different universe on a different day.... one where the pains of oxygen and CO2 rich but nitrogen-poor and wife-inclusive environments are a reality.... a different comment might have been:

That looks great. Might be worth considering separating your power supplies from the pre-amp and power amps from your turntable. You’d be amazed how much difference that makes.

And the reply might have been...thanks! As I say first priority is getting everything working The LP12 is indeed lovely, as well you know, Nick ;-)...and that’s the only fixed point (quite literally given the shelf the more eagle eyed spotted). Everything else I’m working out. Any suggestions which work within the vertical and horizontal space would be gratefully received.

But we’re not in that different universe. Or are we?

Lovely weather today, wasn’t it?

Hey guys,

Just moved and re-setup a dedicated library with a few additions!

Are those speakers set up for the benefit of the dog?

Seems odd that you want to listen to speakers on the floor? Are are you still building some matching speaker stands?

These speakers are because of the dog; I sold my floorstanders before he damaged them (as a puppy). I know the setup is far from optimal but it’ll do for now ;)

989s in a lovely room. I bet they sound rather good in there. I used to have a pair in a room of a similar size and they sounded excellent. I moved on to 2905s which are also very nice sounding, albeit very similar in size to Chris’s 989s.

Cheers...Dave

Hi Chris,
Yes I’m fine thanks. Still getting to the odd show, the latest being The Waterboys at the Palladium end of April, very good they were too.

Rumours are Leeds are after our best striker, Vydra, decent player when he’s in the mood.

Cheers for now,

Dave

Custom rack being finished off:

That's a nice solid-looking piece of shelving furniture. I have a similar 3 shelf item but I used 18mm ply and the wall props up one end. I was pleasantly surprised that everything sounded just as good as it was on separate Target tables, wall shelves and speaker stands (used for monoblocs). Main reason for building it was to get behind everything to access I/Cs and the like.

Hey up, how's things.....good I hope?

Well, I went from 57's/63s/989s....then had a funny turn and tried some Tannoy Turnberrys but couldn't stop from putting the 63s back in, flogged the Tannoys which just didn't do it for me in my room, bought the 2905s, kept the 63s and only sold them 3 months ago to a chap in Czech (63s don't travel? Behave yourselves).

Mostly driven by a Quad Classic integrated, followed by the almost famous JVC AXZ1010tn amp (which is now in a cupboard) then more recently by the current Devialet LE120 which does most things anybody might want and doesn't sound too bad at all.
