Slight change to your last statement. "...EU membership *can* (or *may*) dilute democracy - if your own politicians are a bunch of Tories who need to shift the blame.

*Whatever* political systems you choose, you still need to elect the people who will do the job as the people need. The problem is the ensure you get the right people and transparency/accountability. Knowing the CoM makes decisions we then need to elect politicians who will report back on what actually happened. Not go shtum and finger point.

Agreed. The main commonality is that in each case we need to openly discuss and agree the details. Not hide them or have one party force another. It isn't a case of "four legs good, two legs bad". All too often an FTA isn't what it says on the tin, either. e.g. when the USA may try to use it to enforce them increasing the period of patents on medications and block us buying generics from elsewhere under a banner of an FTA.

As soon as you have to negotiate distinct FTAs with different external countries they will start to play games like these as one FTA gets used to try and game against a competitor, etc. One problem the UK faces is that for decades the EU has handled this and our lot are clueless innocents in this regard at best. At worst, they are patsies for the USA, etc, eager to make their own piles... at our expense.
 
Both Edinburgh and Argyll are rammed with tourists just now. Lots of French, Spanish and Italians in particular- a trend that will continue to grow, in large part for reasons below.

The growth in Iceland’s tourism industry has been meteoric in the past decade, yet capacity is still tight. The far North of Scotland is similar, the NC500 mobbed every year a lot more accommodation and services needed. A driver of economic growth.

Have you seen who’s fronting it? It’s trending in a particular demographic, desperate to chase the flies off Boris and Murray Ross. Has he been holding illegal parties while the Queen was in mourning and paying his mistresses from tax payers money when he’s not minding his sheep farm on Skye?

What is he supposed to have done? Or is he just the "wrong sort"?

If breaking international law, illegally cancelling parliament, racism, lying to the Queen and parliament, plotting grievous bodily harm, running fraudulent political campaigns, nepotism, mis-use of public funds, bent contracting and fraudulent wall-paper purchasing are not reasons to resign, Blackford must have been a very naughty boy indeed.
