I would recommend trying the EAR Phonobox. I ordered mine with the ECC83 setting. The noise floor is very low and you can upgrade the tubes fairly easily. You get the option of MM and MC which gives further flexibility.
I’m not sure of the UK pricing but it may be easier to get a home audition. In Australia the dealer is very accommodating.
