Nytech Audio / Ion Systems Appreciation Thread

Got an original red badge CTA252 receiver. These don’t always age well, but this one is really nice

I have. CTA-252XDII with the optional acrylic cover.
Apart from the VUs being temperamental it works well.

I must get it serviced sometime.

Bought a CTA 252XD (rear pre/power shorting plug) as a student. I remember taking it to Nailsea for an upgrade and seem to remember it as a 25W device so I suppose I upgraded it to an XD II. Bloody trim never stayed on and the whole thing was a dust trap. Used with a very early Planar2, which I also still have, and Kef Cadenzas.

Had it boxed up in the attic for decades, there is only a slight chance it is still working and the cost of reviving it doesn't seem worthwhile

I have just taken my first steps within the NYTECH world and purchased a CA252 and it has arrived. My new link plugs arrived aswell from the excellent NYTECH web shop.

Checking it over and it is a mk2 with a MC1 and all looks OK inside.

I purchased (cheap) what I thought would be a suitable cable for 5pin din to 2x 3.5mm to use my Sony WMD6C Walkman for testing and the cable is not correctly terminated for suitable use.

So does anyone have a link for a suitable cable 5pin din to 2x 3.5mm (play/rec) ?

Many thanks in advance.

Currently running a CA/CXA 252 actively with pair of ARC 202. Amps ungraded a few years ago by Nytech.
In use daily, mainly with a streamer.
Still using the original Radio Spares multistrand cable in fashion at the time.
Would like to replace but remarkably little comment anywhere about best cable to use with classic Nytech equipment and the ARC speakers.
Was impressed with the sound of some Chord cable a friend purchased, but not with the price.
Have bought a Red Label CTA for spares, basically for the volume control !

RS multi strand lightly twisted is perfect still.

Anybody know the value of CA252 volume control.
Have couple of slide controls in a parts box and one is very likely a volume slide removed from defunct a CTA 252.
Are they the same value. ?

The Sliders in the CTA are different to each other.
The bass and treble are 25k Linear law
The mid range is 10k Linear law
The balance and volume were more specialised
The balance is 100k log / antilog to give a better range for the balance control (still pretty useless though) :)
The Volume is a 25k log but with a centre tap for the Contour (loudness) button to work properly so it has an extra pair of pins in the centre of the control midway between up and down which makes the volume control easy to identify from the others.
None have been made for decades but there may be a Bourns pot in the USA that might fit the PCB but I've not got my hands on one yet to try it for real.

So as far as the volume controls go (as this is the one most likely to wear out) How much is rocking horse poo these days :)

Hope this is useful to someone

Thanks for the info.
Have a complete Red Badge CTA for spares and also another functioning CA 252 modified by somebody called "Firebottle ", kept just in case my main CA/CXA system has to come back to Wales for any reason.
You can never have to many Nytechs ?
:)

My back up CA 252 has had a new replacement volume slider fitted at some point. The metal pin used to hold the slider button is somewhat more substantial than that of the original.

This particular unit can no longer be used actively.
