Who is yours? Who was the most important performer, orchestra, composer or band during your time according to you? Awe inspiring, talented, heart rate elevating ... one name only please.

I can’t fulfil the criterion in the question. If I nominated the most important rock band in history I’d be ignoring my no.1 most awe-inspiring (jazz) musician.

Ron Geesin is a genius.

His music doesn't hit me on a visceral or emotional level but his innovative approach, what's clearly in his mind and his ability to turn it into music are astonishing is clearly the work of a genius at work; a true one-off.

In my time, Prince.
Several artists have moments of genius but there are very few that can claim the crown: Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Charles Mingus, Curtis Mayfield.

Seeing as I intersected with Louis Armstrong for 3 months & music wouldn’t really exist as we know it without him.

I would say Jerry Garcia, but I see the Grateful Dead as a collective genius with Jerry as first among equals.
So, Bob Dylan.
