Starmer, Starmer,

After the Starmer’s machinations and lies to subvert Parliamentary democracy, does anyone really still believe this personally signed off promise will be kept once Labour is in power?
Wellllll - it does also say "another future is possible" 🙄

I remember the good old days when parliamentarians had guts. Having Moscow’s goons poisoning people to death in England did not deter Her Majesty’s Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary from travelling without ministerial security to an overnight party with Moscow goons in Tuscany and travelling back pissed in just his work suit the next day. They were real men back then, not like this lot running scared from retired school teachers in keffiyehs they got out of Oxfam.

Perhaps less easy to do that when your spouse and children are also under threat. And, of course, any staff in your constituency office. Hence "Iron man" approaches aren't a real solution here. Nor do I want political opinion and votes by elected representatives to be the choice of representitive requiring them to all be "iron men".

Yeabutt he didn’t seize power in a military coup, preside over a 17 year reign of terror/dictatorship with 40k people disappearing.

You do realise that should Starmer win the next GE, then probably well over 10 million ordinary folk will have endorsed him - are they morally vacuous too?

Their main problem is simple: Who on offer is better and could form a better government?

In Scotland due to PR we at least can have an SNP/Green coalition. Far from perfect, but better than the flat binary: "Tory or Tory-Lite" for Westmonster. The reality is that the LP at the top is much the same as the bulk of the Tories. All it does it exclude the real bonkers Tories like the Member for the 17th Century... but adds in its own odd-bods.

A voting system that allowed the Labour Leader to still sit after losing the election he stood in!, likewise the Tory leader who didnt actually have the guts to put his name on the ballot paper in a constituency. No wonder Sir Keer is saying he’s going to take back control of devolution.

Devolution is what's been happening with politics. It's going backwards, to the Dark Ages.

Within the UK it has tended to be devolution of responsibility, but with Westmonster often keeping overall control of vital basics that then delimit the choices locally.

And FWIW one nominal ambition of the SNP has been that an Independent Scotland might eventually be able to join the EU. How realistic/sensible that may be is debatable. But it isn't possibly as things are because the current arrangements exclude it being done.

And FWIW I've felt that devolution has been a good thing overall for Scotland. We've made a number of changes I feel are for the better which Westminster refuses to do in the rUK.

All Keir Starmer’s Labour U-turns in one place

POLITICO lists 27 (and counting) key walkbacks in Starmer’s spell as opposition leader.

Another sign of things is Blair and Hague becoming a double-act, praising the usual 'PFIs', Privatisations, etc.

Almost like no-one has noticed minor details like:

Water companies making hay for themselves by pumping jobbies out into the environment at great cost to us all.

Energy companies providing infrastructures like the energy sources and then selling the energy to us *at world prices* to get eye-watering profits for their (mostly overseas) investors. Rather than at a price we set and which makes them a reasonable return.

cf Mazzucato et all for many examples.

The think is that Oil/Gas/Wind/Wave/etc energy in UK Sovreign places belongs to the UK/Crown. We sell it off cheap to big international companies and let them sell it back to us at a 'world price' rather than an agreed markup on costs. I can't wondering how many other nations are this crazy.

Keir Starmer had assembled a leadership team about six months before the December 2019 general election that led to Jeremy Corbyn’s resignation as Labour leader.

The team, codenamed the “Arlington Group”, began planning in earnest how Starmer could capture the leadership from June of that year – including a detailed breakdown of how Labour’s membership could be convinced to support him.

Thank **** he did otherwise we would be looking at another massive Labour defeat with Sunak/Braverman/the Babadukk as PM until 2030. He has always made clear that he hadn’t entered politics to waste his time in glorious opposition.

In other news, Sir Keir being correct and decisive over Tory racism (from the Grauniad)):

“Starmer accused Sunak of serious weakness. “It’s right that Lee Anderson has lost the whip after this appalling racist and Islamophobic outburst,” he said.

“But what does it say about the prime minister’s judgment that he made Lee Anderson deputy chairman of his party?

“Whether it is Liz Truss staying silent on Tommy Robinson or Suella Braverman’s extreme rhetoric, Rishi Sunak’s weakness means Tory MPs can act with impunity. This isn’t just embarrassing for the Conservative party, it emboldens the worst forces in our politics.”

You forget about Hartlepool - that shows that this is more about the Tories losing than Labour winning or the 'bastard traitor' himself. His wife persuaded the scab to carry on apparently. He has no appeal, no honour and worse, and no policies that voters want. If we didn't know it already this proves that the Right threw the 2019 election...

Very good article from Peter Oborne regarding Starmer, Hoyle and the ongoing right-wing moral panics and Tory culture wars that Labour now appear such willing partners in.

Labour, as an alleged centre-left opposition party, should clearly be standing against all this and shining the brightest possible spotlight on what is the tried and tested rhetoric of fascism, instead they are nodding it through and if anything acting as an amplifier.

As Benjamin Franklin said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

A few months ago it was trans women who were apparently shaking the foundations of theBritishwayoflife to braking point. Now public hysteria has switched back ( under the guiding hand of Tories on the way down, Dacre, Murdoch and GBNonce) to that old favourite- them Muslims in our midst.

Brexit has failed, not least in its primary aim of halting immigration, the cost of living and inflation have beggared millions, the public have been ripped off while their shit gets served back up to them in their rivers and the NHS is bust, so what to do? Get yourself a scapegoat

Meanwhile, back in the real world

“Polling after a report into Islamophobia within the party was released in 2021 found that 55% of British Muslims did not “trust the leadership of the Labour party to tackle Islamophobia effectively” and 48% did not have confidence in the party’s complaints procedure to deal with Islamophobia”
