England in the eyes of Katie Hopkins

Understood. I like PFM very much and I wouldn't want to be kicked off. So my parting comment on this thread is that I sympathise with all average IQ people who see such atrocities and weep and then look to where they come from and some with even lower IQ respond in kind.

obvious BS is obvious
If your profile is true ("Occupation: Ex-Research Chemist") I find it very hard to believe you lack the wit to see through KH and her ilk.

Well, that got you a month outside. Next one will be permanent. Plenty of warnings were given.

New forum software: I like that I just can't see posts or replies to people I have ignored.

So someone on my ignore list has been banned. I don't know who or why.

I love the whole airbrushing thing.

When we all download into a virtual world we can just delete keywords: farage, ukip, boris, mogg, manchester united, fizzy beer, scunthorpe, lemon soaked paper napkins, chicken nuggets and reality TV. Then re-run the simulation.

I agree with you up to there - the problem is that now I spend all my time logged in to reap those benefits. Before, if someone said something unpleasant about bees or Toyah or Dennis Amiss I’d have to log in, re-enter my password because I’d mistyped it, accidentally hit the ‘lost password’ button, cancel the reset request and re-enter my password again, by which time I had forgotten what had made me cross. Now, before I know it, I have typed ‘Actually, I don’t think I really agree with you quite 100%’ and posted whilst still under the control of the red mist.

tony.

is michel houellebecq banned too?

Things I know about Michel Houellebecq
1. He wrote an award winning book called Plateforme (I know this because I bought the French edition when it was first published. A French friend told me it would be dead easy for me to understand. To my shame I have never opened it.
2. He suffers from some Tourette’s-like disorder
3. When I used to subscribe to Le Canard Enchaîné they were often taking the piss out of him over something he had said or done.

Thing I didn’t know about Michel Houellebecq
1. He is a (possibly banned) member of pfm. Wonder if he has a JC Verdier pre-amp he’d like to get rid of? Michel, if you are not banned, could you send me a PM?

;-)

i was hinting at his recent work, "soumission", which is a rather impressive novel and touches upon some of what is being discussed very badly here (or at least attempted, if i understand the fuss correctly).

****

as for hopkins... the few occasions on which i have heard her speak, she's betrayed the same "tell" as her ideological brother, milo yiannopoulos. outrageous, provocative declarations are invariably accompanied by a big, self-satisfied grin meant to provoke even more. the "ideas" are not presented as authentic intellectual challenges, but a series of adolescent-like taunts with no regard for answer or truth. she has the right to speak, but those who continue to give her a platform are either stupid, evil or looking to profit from the notoriety.

that said, i think it is very legitimate to question the ideology of islam, just as it's valid to question other political movements, like libertarianism or neo-liberalism. it's not OK to dehumanize individuals who have been indoctrinated, especially the poor and powerless.

The problem with allowing the challenging of religion (something I actually support as long as it is from a suitably intellectual and generalised standpoint) is as soon as you start all kinds of bigots turn up and want to use your platform for their own twisted brand of hate-speech and/or xenophobia. Such content either needs continual moderation/locking, or rapidly turns into something approaching 4chan or a EDL/KKK site. It is not something I’d ever go near and such content is obviously hugely damaging to any decent site.

Politics seems far easier to deal with and I’ve no issue whatsoever with people dissecting communism, socialism, neoliberalism, capitalism or whatever. That seems to be possible without attracting the bigots.

I've listened. She's a far-right hate-preaching troll. Case closed.
It's a character, surely you lot can see through this, the apprentice & big brother is where she dwells, underneath the persona lies someone I would place below a slug on a rainy damp evening, I would of course avoid stepping on the slug, 1 brain cell is better than none.

Hopkins is the type of slug that eats my homegrown fruit and veg.
I always despatch these with haste.

I think this is quite traditional with his books.

Which is the more swivel-eyed: Katie Hopkins or Mad Mel Phillips?

Hopkins is a professional contravertialist and says offensive things to make money wheras Phillips is more your true believer. Which makes the two very different I think.

What is the correct term for pretentious and condescending “intellectuals” who believe Assange is above justice?

Point of order, Vuk said:

the is a personality measure called "uncertainty orientation" and people who score highly on the dimension are very uncomfortable with ambiguity. you can also see this in the reactions to assange where it's difficult for some to accept that he may be a flawed person but still deserving of justice at the same time.
