He's a proper right wing tory, lives as a tax exile in Jersey etc. I don't share his politics but he is entitled to them. He does know his cricket though.God is a Yorkshireman and Sir Geoffrey is his prophet.
In the same way that some Christians have a problem with the homophobia, sexism, slavery and rather odd views on what kind of clothes you can combine in the OT, I have a problem with Sir G's views on Brexit. But about all things Cricket he is generally infallible. "If he does that again, he'll be out. The opposition has seen it and placed the man". And lo, when act was repeated the wicket was taken, just as the prophet said.
As much as the idea of general infallibility appeals to my wishy-washy liberal nature (‘tell me, is your God infallible?’ ‘Well, generally, yeah...’) I still need to set my egg timer and turn the radio off when his TMS stints begin. Otherwise the amount of smashed equipment gets a little expensive. In the same way that some Christians have a problem with the homophobia, sexism, slavery and rather odd views on what kind of clothes you can combine in the OT, I have a problem with Sir G's views on Brexit. I don't understand why Boycott is being mentioned, yes he almost certainly is an arse but he is the best summariser in the game & a Yorkshireman. Roy is a shoe in, I would be tempted to have Bairstow open & put Buttler in at wkt. I reckon Sky will do another PR stunt if it gets to 2:2 with one to play.
Yorkshire is full of Boycott types, my late grandfather had some of his cussedness. He is a popular but divisive figure but that is typical of how we view our own. If you are not from Yorkshire then you are not allowed to have an opinion of the 'great man'Boycott was an effective if frighteningly dull cricketer, think Tavere without the charm. He is a decent summariser for cricket, but nil else. In other respects he looks and sounds pretty dreadful. I don't know if his fellow Yorkshiremen think of him as a credit to them, I certainly wouldn't.
I have no opinion on Boycott the cricketer. Actually I do, but that isn’t the issue here. I just want him off the radio. In fact that shouldn’t be the issue on this thread either. Sorry Mr C!, I’ll shut up now.Boycott has a better average than Pietersen, Cook, Gower, Trescothick, Gooch, Vaughn, Strauss...
Of modern players (i.e. finished or will finish their careers after 1970) only Root has a better average than Boycott. And he needs another 20 tests to be taken seriously. And he's from Yorkshire. And he don't play flash neither.
Class will out. And thee sees it in t'average.
(and don't get me started on uncovered pitches, bats today vs. then, amount of cricket played, THAT West Indies attack...)
Strong Yorkshire = Strong England. Root is from Sheffield which makes him extra special.Boycott has a better average than Pietersen, Cook, Gower, Trescothick, Gooch, Vaughn, Strauss...

Very true that. My late grandfather once refereed an 'old Scarborians' charity football match, he sent Fred Trueman off for swearing.Who am I to argue with a fellow of Boycott's own county.
"If Geoffrey had played cricket the way he talked he would have had people queuing up to get into the ground instead of queuing up to leave."
– Fred Trueman on Boycott's commentating career in 1993
I'm not sure the selectors will leave Woakes out. But I suppose he is a little like Anderson, but not as nagging.
I could see Root sucking it up and batting at three, with Roy at 4.
England suddenly are awash with choices, other than openers. 3 onwards they are falling over themselves with options.
How about Bairstow to do a Gilchrist?
