The early stages are in a league format and even when it goes to knockout it's still over 2 legs with the exception of the final.
Chelsea knocked out the Spanish champions and the English champions (probably the 2 strongest leagues in Europe) on route to winning the trophy as well as schooling 13 times CL winners Real Madrid over 2 legs in the semi final.
So if Chelsea are not considered number one in Europe who is exactly?

To be fair, you are absolutely correct. Man City, the team that play in woad, are the champions of a part of a small, insignificant little regarded and isolated little island cast adrift somewhere in the North Sea, while Chelsea are the champions of an entire continent at the centre of the civilised world…

Nothing to check - my point was that when Chelsea won the CL final they did so against the current PL champions.
Had Liverpool been good enough to beat a poor Real Madrid side they'd have been knocked out in the semis - all those injuries, empty grounds & Saturday early kick-offs would have just put them at too much of a disadvantage.
Anyway still waiting for an answer to a simple question?

Ah, you're talking about net spend - then fair enough. Maybe the oligarch needs to spend a bit more though to catch United (and to get a UK passport).
