Jazz Reissues (Individual and short runs)

My OJC Workin' arrived today. It's a beautiful job, Kevin Gray/RTI. I suspect/fear that supply of this series might bit short outside the US.

Amazon has a number of the forthcoming vinyl Craft OJC up for preorder now including Bill Evans, Mal Waldron and Yusef Lateef unfortunately quite expensively priced at between £44 and £50. I found the SQ of the Miles Davis Working to be really top rate, but that was pushing my single LP budget. These are really over the top IMO. I can safely pass on the Evans with reasonable versions, but I’d like the Mal Waldron. I can’t see a preorder price on Juno so far.

I have linked to one, but if you scroll down and follow the links you will see the others.

They seem to have had a price rise after the first releases. Working was £39 I think.

It really is a joke. There’s no reason for it, it’s far from a difficult or expensive project for one of the majors.

Just streamed the one available track of the rediscovered John Coltrane Evenings at the Village Gate Live on Amazon HD due from Impulse on 18th July. Not a great recording judging by the stream, but the performance is pretty much essential. £39 preorder for the 2 LP’s on Amazon:

There are cheaper sites when I looked. I usually put the Amazon link as it benefits Tony if people order anything after following the link. The best pre order price I have seen is £27.65 for the LP’s on Presto music.

I wonder how limited the orange vinyl is. Lots of places seem to be offering it as 'exclusive' and at the same price as the regular black vinyl.

At least you do actually get something extra for the money, some majors are charging close to that for basic reissues.

Yeah that crossed my mind. And Yale Evelev is a really good guy. And I have no idea of the economics of putting out reissues on vinyl.

Though at Cafe Oto last night John Coxon and Ashley Wales' Treader label had a table of beautifully packaged, and no doubt beautifully recorded and mastered, records for £15 a pop.

Dunno.
