Oh Britain, what have you done (part ∞+2)?

We have exported our economically inactive elderly to Spain where they disproportionately consume medical services.

That makes sense; the Spanish and Portuguese NHS provide medical care and medication to elderly people which in the UK are not considered cost effective. My wife's grandad had a pacemaker implanted at 94 and lived to 104. He'd lived in London for most of his adult life but in his mid eighties wisely decided to move to Lisbon.

Are you sure the pensions they spend t here do not offset the cost to the health service? I have no idea but imagine they spend more than they take. And most will come back to UK for serious stuff I would have thought.
There is a good documentary on that subject. Many hospitals were forced to hired translators. And as I have mentioned in my previous post, the Spanish NHS will provide more care than the UK's.

United Kingdom
15th place, 735 points. A 2014 survey to the public of the UK, asking about “What is the
essence of being British?” got the most common response “Having access to the NHS”.
Nevertheless, the UK healthcare system has never made it into the top 10 of the EHCI,
mainly due to poor Accessibility (in 2017 only beating Ireland on this sub-discipline) and
an autocratic top-down management culture. The country, which once created the
Bletchley Park code-breaking institution would do well to study the style of management
of professional specialists created there6
!
Mediocre Outcomes of the British healthcare system have been improving, but in the
absence of real excellence, the tightened 2017 criteria puts the U.K. on par with Spain
and the Czech Republic in the middle of the field. During the autumn of 2017 there were
also worrying media reports about increasing Waiting Time problems, and reduced quality
of cancer care.

Our lass works in ICU, there are interpreters in there every day. Bummer that people don't integrate on the most basic level.

And workers from the EU also spend their TAXED salaries in the UK. I would probably rather have a serious operation in France than the UK, can't speak for others though.

That is rich coming from a Brit. The Indian/Pakistan second generation community does not integrate with the English. And when the English live in Spain etc most do not integrate despite the fact that Spanish is a relatively easy language.
If you are talking about workers from the EU in the UK how do most of them get jobs in the UK if they can't speak basic English ?

If you mean a fortnightly shop down at Carrefour, Malaga for toilet roll, gin and dog food then I’m unsure if that would fund coronary artery bypass grafting at a teaching hospital in Spain.

You may have some kind of picture of me as Billy Britain somehow. Actually, it's probably because I voted out. But I am afraid I am so far removed from the type that I think you have in mind. I vote green or Lib Dem. I hate borders. I'd let anyone move anywhere.

When I said it is a shame people do not integrate on a basic level I mean the whole world, not selectively those coming to UK. I was referring to the fact that interpreters are required in hospitals all over, ie Spain, UK probably everywhere. OK?
