Nick Clegg's majority is down to just over 2,000 down from something like 15,000 in 2010. He says it is now painfully clear that this has been a cruel and punishing night for the Lib Dems.

He says the election has "had profound implications for the country" and for the Liberal Democrats.

The enabler just paid. Opportunism didn't, it would seem.

I know the feeling, get used to it!

Big changes ahead, Union, Labour Party, constitution, operating model, NHS, welfare state. The job's f*cked, it's damage limitation now.

The election could barely have gone better for the SNP.
- Jim Murphy no more
- Douglas Alexander no more
- Charles Kennedy no more
- Danny Alexander no more

The SNP currently have fewer votes than the Liberal Democrats but nine times more seats. Democratic? I don't think so!

The Great British public are certainly better at voting for a government than they are for the X Factor winner.

Precisely. I'm waiting for the final tally but UKIP are taking circa 12% of the vote, which is way more than the SNP and LibDems and so far, this has translated into 1 solitary seat. The system is screwed and needs reform desperately.

The system doesn't work. So I thought I would let my kids vote this time.

The pollster staff sat and watched them make their voices heard with admirable apathy.....

Why are they incorrect?
Because the UK does not have proportional representation.

Anyway, the system is working perfectly. The conservatives will be able to form a government in their own right, the opportunists got slaughtered and the Scots now have a significant voice in the UK parliament.

The only people who think the system isn't working are those whose parties lost.

Not really. It does not work for me. My vote in hull will never change anything. So I can't be arsed to take it seriously.

Labour have brought this failure on themselves. One reason why people didn't vote for them is they wouldn't give us an EU referendum. Labour have been patronizing and incredibly stupid about this issue, they don't appear to believe in democracy.

I am glad the SNP have done so well in Scotland. It's great that Jim Murphy and Danny Alexander have been kicked out on their slimy arses.

The Lib Dems have been wiped out and that is exactly what they deserve. Goobye Vince Cable, you won't be missed at all. It's just a shame that Clegg has held onto his seat.

Ed Miliband, and his cronies like Ed Balls, should resign from their shadow posts. Their time has finished and they should f*** off immediately. They won't of course, because they are careerist, neoliberal, EU politicians. Labour didn't win, because they aren't a Socialist party, but a pink, rotting version of the Tories.

If anything, it's highlighting how FPTP is all but finished. The results are showing the UK doesn't have concentration on two parties anymore so the voting system needs to be looked at as it's now not fit for purpose. Parties with less votes but more concentration are taking up places in parliament which isn't representative of how the electorate have voted.
