Have you tried with a simple carpet in front of the speakers to tame the early reflections?

This always gets mentioned but strangely enough I don't seem to get them in this room with these speakers, which is good as I dislike carpets and rugs

More by luck than judgement the room has worked very well with a variety of speakers which is strange as its a very odd space, long and narrow, double height an no ceiling.

May be wrong but that doesn't look like walnut to me, I've got some audio note speakers in Burr Poplar that look very similar. I'm thinking they look more like a Burr Maple?

Spot on! I checked the finishes on the Duevel website and mine are clearly Mappa Burl which google tells me is from European poplar.

Obviously a senior moment, but they look good anyway (and sound OK as well).

I think it's actually a glass bowl, not a table, the type everyone drops their car keys into when attending a "party"...
