Avondale

Yes, I could spend money on an international call you are right - but given their website says that the information is not available at present why should anyone bother phoning? Not really a turn on to potential customers is it?

Indeed Les could have posted the prices to this very thread an hour or so ago...

I have rung Les for you and he says email him your details and he will send you out a "special rates" price list for your consideration.

Can't be fairer than that!

I appreciate the gesture but this is 2011 not 1970 - expecting people to phone in for prices is not very realistic in the age of the Internet. I think it is fair criticism to be honest.

I also think that when you start charging £4000 for a power amplifier it is important how you present yourself online and elsewhere if you want people to perceive the value in what you have for sale.

You can take these comments as a negative if you wish, or see them as feedback to be used positively to improve things for the future.

I've absolutely no axe to grind here, and having tried in the past to find some prices and ordering information on the Avondale website I find it a rather confusing place.

If LesW wants folk to give him a call to discuss prices and specifications that's fine and IMO it's a better approach perhaps for the type of rather specialist product he sells than having a purely web-based outfit with no personal contact. However, most people nowadays, if they want information on a product, go straight to the internet and I suspect Avondale are losing custom by having a confusing website. Might be my age though...

The trouble is you have no idea what Les and Avondale are about.

They are a tiny outfit creating a product which is of outstandingly good quality in very small numbers. The best analogy I can think of is some of the London based woodwind instrument manufacturers whose products cost $00000 but may not even have a website.

The fact of Avondale's reputation amongs many of us makes people (yourself included) think they are much bigger than the reality, and believe that they have the same commercial philosophy as the "big" players. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If you think your "feedback" will improve things for the future, you suffer from ignorance of what the things themselves are.

Now that has been explained, I for one will consider you a troll if you persist in this criticism.

How Les runs his business is his affair and if you're interested in buying the stuff just get in touch.

I am with you suffolk, i have visted their website a couple of times and have left confused. What would be great is a all singing all dancing product catalogue featuring great photographs and product information including a current price list insert. Something i can retire to bed with and read and re-visit, look at and show my mates.
I would be more than happy to pay a tenner or more for Avondales first catalogue..... Maybe refundable by returning said mag with first order:)

How much are Sondek catalogues and single Naim promo's going for?

The website is indeed a little confusing at the moment as to where products sit in the lineup, exactly what they can be used for and which is the optimum for which purpose.

There is to be a lot more information for the products on the way, including connection numbers and types, output voltages, weight, dimensions, power output etc. None of which exists at the moment. This will no doubt take weeks to come through, there are only two of us here and we're at the workbenches 99% of the time crafting products which give people great pleasure.

I'm sure with a slicker web based business we could have many more orders, but who's going to build them? :D We're not trying to turn ourselves into a high tech, high speed money making train. We'd much rather run somewhat slower but with the innards (and in time outer) made to a standard that makes the competition turn green.

kind regards

Ben @ Avondale Audio

I was asking Les about some amps earlier today and he made it clear to me that he has quite a full order book already. So with the greatest of respect I don't think he is worried about potential orders that may or may not come from his website.

Also, I like being able to speak or even meet the man doing the job (and actually have a listen before I buy) and find that websites can't replace these aspects.

Each to his own eh?

Sorry Ben wrote this at the same time as your official post.

Thanks for the info. Ben; I was particularly interested in the DIY stuff and, being on a very steep learning curve, I couldn't work out which bits I'd need and the price of same. I did consider 'phoning but I thought I'd take up rather a lot of your time with the basic questions I might ask.

Oh, dear, looks like I'm a Troll now! (by the way, what a truly bizarre rant from the fella above). I've never been a Troll before!

I have looked on facebook and the Avondale site and cant find the prices for the 821 pre amp, multicap 2, etc...

I imagine Les was eager to get the news out about the new products but it just doesn't look good....

Hi possitive
See you managed to find the cost of the Avondale SBL crossovers .
Was the cost on facebook or Avondales site ?

They are a work of art ,wait till you hear them .
You will be on the blower to LES and his team ,to order a pair

It's possible you're referring to my latest post.

Please accept my assurance that you were not the intended target. Your post (#46) was submitted whilst I was writing my reply to post #45 and others from the same member.

Apologies if you believed yourself to be accused of being a troll.

Shame. I kind of liked the idea of hiding under bridges and leaping out at small children! Apology accepted.

Think that the "rant" for a better word was not aimed at you Tony your post may have just got in between.

What are you thinking of building? I built a couple of really great PSU's for my DAC and SB3 based on Avondales older TPR1's. Les helped me along when I was unsure and even gave them the once over when I had completed them. I rang him with what I wanted to do and he gave me a shopping list of bits with his price.

Regards

Sounds promising, although a bit worrying that you are so under staffed. Thanks for the update.
