I used to run 82-Hi-250 and would still consider it a perfectly capable first system today. Sold it but would gladly buy it back. For a second system, 72-140 or a Nait would probably be more fun.

Some of the better units such as the Pioneer CLD-D925 had decent quality comb filters that would give you a better output than the composite. I'd use that output to hook it up, good quality used cables should be dirt cheap now and the connectors arent't as chunky as SCART.

No real problems, the amp just sounds bad because the caps are 25 years old and about to cream. If I ask Naim about a service, they quote the replacement of the transistors as a likely option, and I'm simply wondering if there are better places to put my money. Cheers, Edo

So do I understand from this discussion that it would be a better idea to upgrade to the newer but still old model at a little cost than to keep the older one and have it serviced for a possibly huge amount of money? Cheers, Edo

Dear all, Naim have warned me about servicing my 25 year old 250: the transistors might need to be replaced. I'm wondering what the typical life expectance for a transistor is: would I need to worry about having to replace them within, say, five years if I upgrade to a 1987 or so model...

Dear all, I've found a local supplier for Kendeil caps, who's also willing to help me put them in my Hi and 250. However, there seem to be two types available at 63V/22000uF/screw terminals. Which ones do I need exactly? Cheers, Edo
