Yamaha NS-1000M Refurbishment

Many thanks all.

I've updated the thread to answer all the laminate questions (I think):

I'm very lucky in that I have access to, and know how to use, a lot of equipment - it isn't really practical for someone to do most of this on their kitchen table, for example. Pretty much the only bits that I have done at home are the soldering and the CAD. It's DIY in the sense that I have done it all myself - but not in the sense that I bought the bits from B&Q and hammered it together in a weekend :).

Stunning attention to detail Mark.

Hope they reward your efforts with performance to match their incredible looks.

FINISHED!!!

Took about 5 hours but have soldered and bolted it all together. Somehow I managed to avoid making any mistakes (like soldering cables on without first fitting the gasket). Everything fitted, all bolts were the right length and....it all worked when I turned the power amps back on :). I finally positioned them on their stands at about 11pm and have had a brief listen (four records) - too tired to type it up now, but, in short, very pleased. I've taken pictures of final assembly and will post them when I get a chance.

;) In stark contrast to another current thread, I didn't commission anything, I planned and made it all myself (just as well as it would have cost a fortune).

Great effort and great thread, ended with possibly the shitist picture of all time so its impossible to understand the fit and finish, nice one!

Yes, the picture is very poor -,but it was nearly midnight and taking a pic was low on my list of priorities.

Rest assured I will take a load of pictures (well, I won't take the pictures, my competent friend will) today or tomorrow and post them. I also have a bunch of pics of the final assembly. To be honest, this taking pictures of everything as you go along has been a right nuisance.

As for fit and finish - I think you will find them 'acceptable' ;).

Here you go then, I'm sure Mark will annotate.

They sound every bit as good as they look, I'm very tempted by the bass driver mod, that has actually significantly tightened the bottom end.

Epic pictures mate - simply fantastic :) - two laser etched Yamaha badges in your hand tomorrow :).

YNWOAN, fantastic build thanks for sharing. Great pictures SQ. one quick question, sorry if you mentioned this in the main build thread. Is the AUX tweeter out on the rear of the speaker terminal panel for the Perspex supertweeter I think you said you were working on?

Cheers nitrous.

Sorry to break up the party boys, but there has been a complaint from the Audio Standards Society about the construction of these speakers. It will be necessary for me to uplift these speakers for examination to make sure there has been no violations of the Society's code of conduct. Please have then ready for uplift tomorrow at 10.00. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I no longer recognise their authoraty :)

Yes congrats they look stunning , how have the diffraction rings worked out performance wise, do you have a tilt on them as Troels suggested to time align the mid/tweeter.
