Wattstax on Double Vinyl. Bought (for £1) just to get Isaac Hayes epic version of 'Ain't no Sunshine'. Sounds fantastic after a twirl on the RCM.

The Vaselines: All the stuff and more. They should have learnt it's ok to write short songs rather than drag 1 verse out over 5 minutes but they did write some great songs, The Day I Was A Horse is fantastiche.

daft punk: Homework. This is such a great record, a few drum machines, a few guitar pedals couple of synths, like house music should be. Not sure why they felt they needed to deviate from the formula. Alive is such a choon.

Yes, should dig this out, not sure where it is.

LFO - Frequencies

That kicks arse too innit. did you got that Sheath one that came out a few years ago? Played that the other day, some of it is a bit naff, but certainly has it's moments, particularly the first track iirc.

No not got that, is it worth getting?

Frequencies is quality.

Annexus Quaam - Osmose
Limbus 4 - Mandalas

Some great early 70s underground music from Berlin.

Zaiko Langa Langa - Banzai Live au Japon '86
Papa Wemba - au Japon '89
Orchestre Vévé - eponymous best of
Sam Mangwana Franco et TPOK Jazz
DP Express - tête calé from Haiti brilliant disco-antilles-congolese fusion
Choc Stars - a Paris
Defao, Carlito, Debaba - He Wakata Choc 86 vol 2
Choc Stars - Kelemani
Bopol & Nyboma - Deception. features the excellent titles S.S. Sans Souci, Cardiaque ya l'amour and deception motema
Maray Maray - Buku ya lopango
Gaby Lita Bembo & Stukas - Kita Mata ABC The only CD in this lot, on the excellent retroafric label, and the album Vampire Weekend should be listening to (they really need to put Graceland back on the shelf).
So, with a single exception, this is turning out to be a Congolese Saturday. Mali, Senegal, Nigeria, Togo and Cameroon are for once not welcome, at least for today. Several more large piles to go...

Francophonics vol2 - disc one now on constant rotation. Anyone even slightly interested in African music should get these albums. Compilations worthy of the undisputed Grand Master of African music. Finally.

Bonjour Joel,

Should one start with vol 1 or 2?

If I'm honest, i'm not totally crazy about the style of Franco's music, based on listening to the Golden Afrique 2 CD compilation, which has some of his greatest hits. But always interested in revising a hasty opinion.

Are these LP or CD?

P.
