The watch thread: pocket, wrist, sporty, showy? You name it!

Very nice!

I’m cheap so they’re not for me but I do think the tech is pretty cool - very Japanese. Pushing the boundaries, sort of thing.

I got a regular Citizen ana-digi for my 20th birthday. For some years it was accurate to within 10 seconds a year. It was my first quartz watch & I thought all were as accurate! Wearing it all the time might have helped because it was kept at constant body temperature.
They're available at around £400 now, and if you're prepared to buy directly from Japan there is a particular model that can be had for around £260 (it's small by todays watch size standards though). Granted to some people that may still be a lot of money to spend on a watch (it would be for me), especially given that watches are essentially redundant these days, at least for the purpose they were invented, with clocks being available on all mobile phones*. So watches are more of a dress/fashion or specialist interest item in todays world.

I'm also attracted by the tech is cool aspect. I've always been a sucker for that kind of boundary pushing stuff, as well as for the (what is in truth totally pointless) accuracy of a time keeper. I was a bit anal with my watches, for a long while I used to sync their time with the speaking clock at least monthly if not weekly.

*The fact I have the time on my mobile is the reason I stopped bothering to wear watches. I never had issues with the need to wear a watch, I even was rather attached to my Lorus when I had it, but in the long run I just didn't see the point of putting something on my wrist to tell the time when I could just take my phone out of my pocket, and given that I was always going to be taking my phone with me when I went out, I just eventually stopped wearing my watch.

I know these aren't to everyone's taste but this and the Moonswatch (I've an Earth and my wife a Uranus) are just fun to wear. There's been more people wanting to talk about them then when we've had our "proper" watches on.

You have to enjoy them, surely, that makes them fun? I might not find your taste fun, but mine....

I think of watches as "nice," "good" or "useful" or "beautiful" rather than "fun." A bit like a camera, stereo or car.

The Seiko SKX781 orange Monster is fun! I miss mine; it needs work I must get onto having done. (The second generation with the “teeth” is just silly; the upmarket third generation OM is too sober imo.)

Colourful G-Shocks & Baby Gs are fun, too.

Fun watches always bring a smile to my dial, oh yes 😁

Nice work, & liking the orange. Interesting, the indices are similar to those of the third gen Monsters. The orange hue doesn’t look a million miles away from the Seiko one either.

Now you mention it I see what you mean, I've spent the last few weeks just doing uni work and polishing so its nice to get back to some servicing
