I saw the coverage of that on Sky. UKIP really are vile. Absolutely no exaggeration to describe them as a far-right/fascist party. I detested Farage and still do, but seeing what they are without that thinnest veneer of wealthy public school respectability is quite enlightening. They used to be the NF in a cheap suit. Now they are just the NF.

The sad thing is they seem pretty in tune with their low-IQ thug demographic. I can’t remember whether it was Sky or C4, but on one of them when the female journalist challenged the vile MEP about his rape comments and he said he stood by them he got a large round of applause.

Scottish UKIP candidate Mark Meechan was a prominent user of an online forum that contained racist language and threats against ethnic minorities.

The forum was closed down by its host, US-based gaming community site Discord, following inquiries by the BBC.

The chat group, which was littered with racist and Islamophobic terms as well as support for neo-Nazi groups, was promoted from Mr Meechan's Twitter.

Mr Meechan said the forum "operates on the principle of free speech".

And struggling its way back to the top of the pile, the deputy leader Hookem has resigned in order to challenge Batten for the leadership because:
"Mr Batten's policy direction and associations have given the mainstream media the ammunition to label our party 'extreme' and 'far-right', accusations I do not believe to be true."

Mr Batten has been criticised for the direction he has taken UKIP, especially after naming former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson - whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon - as an adviser.

But Mr Batten said he had saved the party "from oblivion", and that Tommy Robinson was "a good person to have onside".

Mr Hookem said he had been "desperate to act to stop the increasing isolation and marginalisation of our party in recent months.

"However unlike some who found alternative parties, I stayed loyal to the membership and delayed my resignation to minimise any potential electoral impact."

Aptly named Hookem has more in common with Tommy Racist than he imagines, not least his propensity to use violence to get what he wants. Brussels should send him the bill for the ambulance after his last little party fall out. BTW, an ex-bus driver with his own hair would be great as UKIP comedy leader. He might have to fight the bewigged racist for it though.

Such is the disquiet about Batten’s approach in Ukip’s national executive that he was barred from standing again, prompting a threat of legal action.

It is understood that Batten was blocked partly because the NEC felt his drive to the far right and links to Robinson had alienated voters, but also because he declined to be interviewed by NEC members before the contest.

Instead, one among four little-known Ukip activists will lead the party after a relatively low-key announcement at the party’s headquarters in Devon on Saturday. This will be Ukip’s fifth permanent leader since Farage stepped down just under three years ago.

Actually we should welcome this ukippy goodness. Their poll ratings could come back up and help split the Gammon vote three ways and undermine both Farage and the Tories. It seems the only reason they’ve ditched the rug wearing racist is because they were losing votes, I’m sure if he’d been attracting more votes with his race hate, they’d have been hanging out of him.
