The (almost) bi-polar nature of Naim's products and customers . . .

Recently got a Supernait 3 because it sounds better to me than the several others I demoed in the price range, and better than the Accuphase I had before it. I think it’s a great value. I listen to music more often now and enjoy it more with the Naim. It’s just Hi-Fi gear. You listen and pick what you enjoy.

These threads are so weird.

I look forward to the, presumably forthcoming, 'Moving on From Accuphase' thread. ;) :D

Seriously, though, and while it seems bizarre that it even needs to be said, 'It’s just Hi-Fi gear. You listen and pick what you enjoy' sums it up rather nicely. :)

Short life for the forum where everyone said 'who cares?' and 'Yeah, maybe you're right' and etc. :)
Sometimes things get bad tempered, but so they do in the outside world. I'm here to listen, speak and learn. None of that can happen unless there's some give and take, back and forth, you, then me.

I went through 6 different integrated amps when I bought mine and ended with a Supernait 1 for the same reasons !

Does that include cables?
One good thing about naim, no need to worry about cables. Just use the naim cables (interconnects even come with most hardware!) and you’re ready to go with no need to bother!

(unless you might like cables from Chord or witch hat or on and on...)

Love this hobby ;)

Love Naim and PRAT.
I could stick a load of stuff up my nose and get a lot of PRAT but I don't find it very good value for money as you never see it again.
With Naim kit you can always sell it for a good sum if you get bored and so it is good value for money.

I paid roughly half the full retail price for lightly used 52/Super and CDS2/XPS, and still took a bath when I sold them on.

OTOH, I'm certain I will get my money back (and then some) for my Nait2 and ARO.

So I guess that depends on the desirability and scarcity of the pieces you are looking to buy.

These threads do make me laugh, you have the strong defence from the Naim fans and then those that seem to dislike the brand are keen to make their point in a strong manner too.

Of course it is possible to get a different sound for less. Whether it is better probably depends on your personal taste in the sound of a system. Technically it may well be better, but as I know nothing about the technical side of hifi, I am not really able to make a fair judgement.

I am no fan of the Naim house sound. I find it far, far too forward. Although I do admire the build quality of their equipment, and have always liked their CD Players, particularly the CDI and CDX2 models which I personally owned.

My Dad however, is a big fan of the Naim house sound, and has a full Naim system excluding speakers.

Naim dealers really don't help the view of the brand in a lot of way. For instance a dealer I went to recently was somewhat shocked when I said that I didn't want to hear the Naim system he was pushing my way and when I pointed out that I was not a fan of the house sound, he pointed out that I must have a hearing problem as you couldn't get better in a thoroughly rude manner. Suffice to say, I walked our shortly thereafter and won't be returning any time soon. It is worth nothing that this is not the first time I have experienced this sort of reaction from Naim dealers, although not quite as rude previously.

Not probably, definitely.Thats why these threads will forever go around in circles.

Aggressive marketing. Doesn't wash with sensible folks nowadays. It’s a sound and some will like it, some won’t. Simple.

Why do you keep going in Naim dealers?

Why do you keep going in Naim dealers?

I know you are no fan of mine given your previous bizarre responses to my points, but this one takes the biscuit. In answer to your most bizarre and self evident question - Because no Hifi shop that I know of just sells Naim, so I am interested in exploring the other brands.

It’s always good to compare reputable brands when you going into a shop, whether they specialise in Naim, Rega or any other, surely? I sometimes check if there have been any developments in certain brands because sound profiles do change, even subtly, in order to grab more market share. Though some traders enjoy the sound of what they sell, for others it’s purely a marketing decision.

If I were an audio dealership I would likely want the Naim dealership. They will always sell and would most likely be a good income stream.

Yep, don't worry, Bob just doesn't like me for whatever reason which is why he asked the strange question. No bother, I think I'll get over it.
