Musk has been playing around with his crypto-related tweets again. How is he allowed to get away with this? Imagine the outcry if the CEO/CTO/CIOs (or whatever Chief) of other large companies started to tweet about financial positions that they were responsible for and/or personally held......
I agree. When you look at the timing of Baillie Gifford getting rid of a lot of Tesla stock, you can’t help but think it is related to his Bitcoin activity and the fund managers not being enthused with his plans and activity. In November James Anderson & Tom Slater of BG / Scottish Mortgage held 12.3% of Tesla stock and both have significantly reduced their holdings just before he started talking Bitcoin. The timing makes you think this stock sale was likely related to the plans around Bitcoin….

Definitely not silent, there is a lot of air moving and the recent video of the USMC Osprey trashing the hospital helipad shows what tilt rotors can do.
The time it took to stop Ospreys crashing frequently should raise alarm bells on this project

Yep, some will be stupid enough to think an electric helicopter will be as silent as a car. I can only assume the Green Agenda have got on board and spruiked it to the moon. God there is some 'stupid' SPAC's money floating around the world ATM

BBC article https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-57447564
Virgin has always been a hype company and has got worse in the last decade with their space plane.
Hidden in the article are some intelligent comments about the Pipistrel Velis fixed wing, which has a 77 hp peak motor and a maximum payload of 172 kg ie small pilot and weigh your single passenger. It also has a 15:1 glide ratio with 10.7m wingspan, which is closer to motor glider than a general purpose light aircraft. The taxi rndering does not look like it is a glider, so flying more on engine power even in level flight.
For comparison a Robinson 44 has a 245 hp engine

We seem to be marching on. Even if a variant appears which evades vaccines (and I’m sure one will), the markets aren’t scared by C19 any more. They know central banks and govts will flood everywhere with borrowed cash. Of course, that’s a more worrying prospect than allowing an asset price correction, heaven forbid.

I always keep an eye on the car market as it's a good barometer of economic trends, etc.
One big thing to come out of Covid is people being prepared to buy cars online UNSEEN!

WeBuyAnyCar has been going gangbusters and seem to be using Covid as their trigger to expand fast. I'm seeing stories like this all over the place: https://www.pistonheads.com/news/general-pistonheads/cinch-owner-buys-rockingham-for-163-80m/44286

I can see a situation where the smaller to mid sized dealers are forced out of the used car market. WBAC, etc will become the amazon and just send cars to potential buyers, if they don't like it they pick it up after a few days. Even if it takes 2 or 3 goes to get a customer a car they are happy with running a fleet of delivery trucks is alot cheaper than the overheads of 'retail' with rent, rates, staffing etc...

My neighbor manages a decent sized used car lot and he said even with restrictions away car viewing is still done by appointment. The days of you wandering into the lot and trying a dozen cars are over. They call the 'test drive' a 'confirmation drive' now.
Have to say whilst that is fine for now, their business long term may be under threat from the volume sellers with this big shift in the way consumers buy...

^^ let’s face it, unless you are buying something specialist, cars are just rented white goods nowadays. For the vast majority, the thought of not having the torture of a typical buying process is very appealing.

Exactly, and EV's will make cars even more like appliances....luckily my neighbour is nearing retirement age as I think it might be closer than he realizes!

Talking to him remineded me of the record companies in the 80's loving the new CD format which allowed them to "sell the same music TWICE". But the digital jump was dancing with the devil...

I bought my current car from a web operation with RAC testing and full history. Not having to be sized up by a sales person to see what they can make from me was great. I'm not planning on buying my next car from a dealer. They will become a rarer breed selling to car hobbyists and those who like the sales experience.

Yep, no different to ordering a washing machine from AO.com. I’ve always bought cars unseen for the past 15 years. Find the lowest priced example of what I want, don’t care where it is, generally 3 - 6 months old with manufacturers warranty. Never had a problem. I’m seriously thinking of selling the campervan. The prices are totally off the chart and cannot believe they’ll last. There are a lot of reluctant campers this year who’ll be straight back on a plane at the earliest opportunity.

My dealer neighbour seemed to think that bodies like him will still be required to find and sift through the cars. I don't agree.

The pile them high, armies of cheap mechanic doing (minimum) prep on the cars, getting them on a truck for the online buyer is what the big players are heading for. Very few people even want to actually 'own' a car in the financial sense anymore so maybe aren't as picky...I will certainly be going that way with my wife's car first. Some form of EV subscription with an annual mileage limit would be fine by me...I'll keep my own fun cars until they are no longer viable.

You don't buy washing machines second hand with badly repaired accident damage
