Should Ched Evans be playing professional soccer?

IF Evans' version of events are true & he's had his life turned upside down by an opportunist (with previous for the same). Why would he acknowledge what he knows he didn't do?

IF on the the other hand maybe he is a cant, which seems pretty reasonable, maybe the woman should receive some sympathy.

A board member told BBC sports editor Dan Roan the decision was taken because of "enormous pressure from sponsors and threats to staff and their families".

how is that good news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sound like mob justice and crass commercialism to me . Yep just what we need .

He has asked the CCRC to examine his file in the hope of having his conviction overturned.

The CCRC began its fast-track inquiry in early December 2014, but its work will not be complete until the autumn.

If successful then does his conviction still stand?
If successful then what actions are open to him to rebuild / reclaim his life and reputation?

It's great news, Football is a business. No one wants their brand represented by a thug, rapist, bigot or whatever. If Evans wants to be taken seriously he needs to clear his name and at that point he may be a viable proposition for a sponsor. I'm amazed the Oldham team owners took so long coming to the obvious conclusion.

I think the concern wasn't about Oldham deciding not to sign him (and I wouldn't want him playing for my club - guilty or not) but that Oldham are saying that part of the reason they've dropped the idea was down to threats being made to their staff and their families.

Rapist released from prison cant play football , cause those that dont like the idea have threatend the staff and family of the prospective football club.

you are both bonkers .

I thought it was sponsors not wanting him representing their brand?

I've not been following it that closely as I consider football a "sport" played by thugs and followed by morons. The fact the poor girl who was raped has had to go into witness protection highlights everything one needs to know about the idiotic pastime. I've always detested it and the whole chav-moron thug culture it represents. It is a national embarrassment - an excuse for drunken thugs to beat the living crap out of other very slightly different drunken thugs. FWIW I've never understood tribalism or religion either.

I thought it was sponsors not wanting him representing their brand?

Definitely a factor (and probably the main one) but given how emotive it's become it's entirely plausible that threats were made (although probably only internet hardman types) to their staff and staff's families as they've said.

The victim has had her name reportedly changed 5 times and lives in fear whilst not being able to return/lead a normal life because of 'enormous pressure' and 'threats' from Evans supporters. How is this 'good news' and/or acceptable? Why should Evans be able to return to his former life when she can't? Evans supporters speak of him having 'served his time'......when does the victim's torment end?

Maybe if he was to actually do something to help her return to some kind of normality, right the wrong/repay his debt to the victim directly instead of only repaying his debt to society, he might be left alone.

we live in a society full of dicks

Yes we do. And conversing with one isn't enjoyable but it's a cross I have to bear sometimes. Interestingly, the political party leader of your chosen party doesn't believe Evans should return to professional football either. Maybe you can call him a 'dick'. But anyway, no ones saying he can't play football.....there's always Sunday league, 5 a-side etc......if he can find a team that'll let him play.

The problem is we live in a society where victims can and do serve a longer 'sentence' than those convicted of crime and yet society, or some parts of it, seems overly worried about the rights of the criminals and not the victims. Wearing a tag, community service or serving out a prison sentence doesn't fix or repair the damage caused to the victims.

"This silence has been misinterpreted as arrogance and I would like to state that this could not be further from the truth.

"I do remain limited at present by what I can say due to the ongoing referral to the Criminal Cases Review Commission and whilst I continue to maintain my innocence, I wish to make it clear that I wholeheartedly apologise for the effects that night in Rhyl has had on many people, not least the woman concerned.

"Finally, it has been claimed that those using social media in an abusive and vindictive way towards this woman are supporters of mine. I wish to make it clear that these people are not my supporters and I condemn their actions entirely and will continue to do so."

It has taken a while but finally we have an apology. I hope it is him rather than his legal team but it is an acknowledgment of events at least. I for one am pleased that he has been able to do this.

I, clearly wrongly, thought that the purpose of as custodial sentence was not about punishment, but removing someone in order to protect society from them. This guy was convicted of rape and seems unrepentant, and therefore any football club associating themselves with him must be really really stupid.
Although Oldham have pulled out of the deal now, they have shown a very serious lack of judgement that will have repercussions for them. That they ever entertained the idea of having him will make them toxic to sponsors.
I know footballers are generally a bit dim, but the management of Oldham are in a different league.

The 'apology' today is in no way written by Evans and looks like a very crafted statement managed by a legal team. It was obviously brought out for damage limitation, probably because Evans was told unless he did so very quickly, he may never play professional football again. It seems to take this approach to get his thick head to understand.
The 'apology' is just politics without actually saying anything, but the damage to Oldham is done, and I expect Evans will be driving a taxi soon, if sex offenders are allowed to.

Oldham signed Lee Hughes upon his release from prison .

Lee Hughes killed someone cause he smacked his very expensive and very large sports car in to back of married 56 year old father of two . He ran from the scence in an attempt to avoid being found to be drunk .

nobody seems to have given a toss about that , Ched Evans is not even in the same ball park .

Didn't know that.
Oldham managers are even more stupid than I thought.

Hardly anybody knew , cause it wasnt a big deal in media .

I wonder why .

ched and lee were/are premiership footballers ,if Oldham can get them , that would appear to acumen rather than stupidity
