    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

A principled intellectual giant compared to the toads infesting Parliament today.

Absolutely right. It saddens me to hear of her death. She and most of her political contemporaries - left and right - were head and shoulders above the intellectually challenged bunch we have now. Plus she had an excellent political pedigree with Vera Brittain as her mother.

I had a student Christmas job in Mount Pleasant sorting office, Liverpool. I noticed a lady approaching and genuinely inquired of a mate if it was his Mum dropping in for a natter.
It was in fact a very down to earth and chatty Shirley Williams popping in to see how the P.O. coped at the busiest time of year.

Sad to hear it. Even as a teenager, I took in a lot of what she contributed to political debate. Compare her with Priti Patel or Liz Truss in Cabinet today and you understand why we are in the place we are.

I remember much talk about the MP John Smith after his death as being the greatest PM we never had.

Aye and there would never have been a war in Iraq and labour would never have been wiped out in Scotland however he would have been able to become prime minister if he’d lived.

Short memories, she was one of the gang of four, what might have been if they had remained in their former placements?

Met her at Stansted airport once. She was very open for a chat while waiting to jet off to a conference. She had a knack for seeing both sides of any story. Is that centrist or liberal?

She was clearly a decent, clever and principled woman who inspired and was loved by many. RIP Shirley, we need more like you now.

Her greatest achievement (along with the other 3) was to pretty much guarantee conservative governments and all that has led to. A flounce by part of the Labour right with similar damage to the more recent coup.
