It is certainly fibre board around the arm, motor and main bearing mount - but it needs to be in order to bolt these things firmly into place.
No idea if any other materials are used.
Certainly if you tap the plinth you can tell that it is skeletal - it is clearly hollow in places, and if you remove the plater and arm what's left is very light indeed.
... its a light year better than any rega could ever be...

Particular core first generation P-9. WOW never knew that. With Plunging router, laminate and wood this can be made for under $10.
