Close but no cigar - Springer Spaniel, caught in mid hurtle. Mind you, pig wouldn't be so far off - she loves rolling in mud...

Your first pic has too much in the background ... it detracts from the main subject.

Your second pic is slightly out of focus on the top petals, they should be in focus.

I kept the aperture at 1.4 to force the very narrow dof (<0.5 cm) - it's an effect, sorry you didn't like it.

On the amount of background, the theme is bokeh.

Its the Bullring in Birmingham Joe, a big shopping centre that is always busy no matter what time of day you go. The photo is of Selfridges. Its a much nicer place from the outside although Selfridges do sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
