I've dropped about 5kg recently, I've finally come to the conclusion that alcohol of any description causes me to pile weight on, likewise when I stop it just falls back off. So it's looking like a teetotal future for me unfortunately. I don't see the point of the occasional glass of beer or wine, might as well not bother if that is the case.

If you miss having a grown-up drink, I can highly recommend these three 0.0% alcohol beers.

St Peter’s Without -
https://www.stpetersbrewery.co.uk/products/alcohol-free-beers/alcohol-free-ale/ currently 3 for £3 in Tesco

Cobra Zero - not had it for a while, but Sainsbury’s usually have it. Not quite the depth of the full fat, but still great with curry.

Bavaria 0.0% in a silver can, red and blue vertical and horizontal bars. Cheap as chips in Tesco. A surprisingly good lager type beer, perfect for your socially distanced BBQ.

I might try them. I don't normally like O% beers, but it's worth a go. I generally go fizzy water if I'm off the pop, zero calories, fill your boots, nice to glug down.

A few years back non-alcoholic beer was disgusting. Cobra Zero was the first decent one, and the other two are very good. Obviously tastes differ, but give them all a go and you might find one that’s worth the calories!

Indeed. I think Becks Blue is pretty OK. I haven't had a full one, but it tasted broadly OK when a mate was having a dry month and still wanted to go out for a pint. I still drank Landlord.

I'm not much if a Mclager drinker to be honest, more of an ale and Belgian triple fan, not to mention of course the lovely scrummy 12% quads.

As much as I dislike San Miguel (Spanish company not the original Filipino) their 0.0% is very drinkable.
For a more Germanic flavour try Amstel Oro 0.0.

@stevec67 Hmm, last time I tried Becks Blue it was awful. Maybe they’ve improved it.

@matt j The St Peter’s Without is a bitter, and very good.
I shall have to broaden my horizons. As I say I don't generally drink zeroes and only tasted the Becks.

Aldi used to do a 2% lager, it was great when you just wanted a cold drink on a hot day. Dirt cheap. Yes, it was a bit thin, but it was honest enough and you could just drink one and get on with the rest of your life.

So I am 5 months in, working from home has certainly reduced my general activity (I used to walk 4K steps a day in the office!) but still losing weight gently. Running now 6.5km 2-3x per week non-stop (started 1 min walk/1 min run for 15 mins on 2nd Jan); now dropped 14kg/30lbs to 86.5kg. Targeting 85kg by Jul 1 and at some point a 10km run.

You should join in on the running thread. It was really helpful when I started a few years ago.

As the summer is here, you might like to try a "commute". Have 20 minutes, half an hour, whatever you like, at the start and or end of the day. Either on foot or on a bike. I've done this on occasion, it's a great way to start the day. Up and out, wake yourself up, enjoy the nice fresh morning air, then back, shower, breakfast, right, I'm ready for work now. I find it very good psychologically.

This is precisely what I do. I've been working from home for a few years now.

A couple of laps walking round the local park is about two miles so about 30 minutes.

I did 4 laps yesterday, 4 miles in 57 minutes if the tracking app is to be believed. Only 3 today I was a little later starting so it was getting warm.

Another pound. Impressive. So consistent in fact that I am beginning to doubt the numbers! A bit like the GCSE results getting better every year for 26 years, with nary a stutter, but the standards aren't falling. Hmm.

All joking aside, good work. Carry on.

I know what you mean! It does, of course, vary somewhat over the week, and sometimes Saturday is a low, sometimes not. Anyway, I’d like to edge it closer to a kilogram a week if I can, but don’t want to do anything unsustainable either. I’ve started by slightly reducing my porage portion. I am, after all, over 10% down in mass since January.

I found as I got fitter, I could take on more ambitious exercise plans, this aligned to a dietary deficit caused an accelation in weight loss. I used to hope for between 1 and 2lbs a week. At various points it plateaued as well. I’m a porridge fan too, I used the ready mixed packages to make sure I wasn’t overeating, I added dried fruit and Demerara sugar. It’s about removing temptation for me, I like to make sure there are no snacks around, just a sandwich and fruit for lunch, although sometimes I’ll indulge in a packet of crisps as well, and I keep tea light on carbs. Alcohol is my downfall though, I either make myself drink smaller portions 330ml cans instead of larger ones, or I have been known to use the lower carb versions. Again it’s 4 cans for the price of 3 in terms of calories. I only drink at weekends as well, although lockdown has made this a little more challenging. I’ve got to say though, you’re absolutely smashing it! Well done.

Good scheme. It's a marathon and not a sprint, and the biggest battle is the one between your ears. At the moment you are winning that so I wouldn't be making huge changes. If you start to plateau off, maybe, but you aren't so hang on in there.

I agree with everything above and am so pleased to see you make consistent and sustained progress.

There’s no rush and so I’d be very happy to see you keep losing a pound a week to be honest for as long as it keeps going. Slow adaptation is much preferable to fast revolution which never lasts. You’re learning to eat and move at the level you want your body to be at.

When the loss dries up and you plateau then shout up and there’s plenty of good ideas to freshen things up and keep your momentum up.

Great work.
