New tv recommendations ?

Watch out for the LGs labelled LA and LB, for some it just means the stand is a different shade of silver on a few B=USB Time Shift Recording cos it has 2 triple tuners not 1.

More info needed for folk to give you recommendations. Budget, Size and what is your priority viewing, someone with a XBoxX or 4K UHD player would need a different/more expensive set to someone who watches a lot of Sky or Freeview standard def.

Bargain wise the Hisense range along with Samsung have a number of really good sets. Maybe this Hisense 55U7Q would suit should be about £500.

AVForums has a lot of reviews, the LG 48 OLED is a brilliant all rounder but maybe over budget, black Friday this week so bargains will be around

There’s a slim chance the LG48C1 will hit £800, it was released at £1400, that’s what I’d go for.

Easily in budget

I was aware of the cosmetic difference and that the LB version doesn't support WISA (a recent wireless audio option for connecting speakers without wires), but I wasn't aware of differences concerning tuners and recording. Can you please describe the differences in more detail, and which version is better equipped, the LA or the LB?

wow big thanks for that really good read with some great info ,ill also have a look out for that lg & check richer sounds :)

All you need is to make sure the TV has Toslink out (most do) and use a cheap DAC like the Maplin or Fiio and you can use it into an Aux amp input, assumes the TV is located more or less in the middle of your speakers, a balance control obvs works if it’s offset.

Interesting, though not sure I'm happy with yet another box just to do what I do now; however, seems to be a fairly simple expedient. Doesn't matter where the TV is, though obv. preferably centrally positioned for speakers. For cans, which is what I use mostly, it's of no importance at all.

I cannot understand why, after donkey's years of having line out RCAs (and I go back to the late sixties), why they now omit this low cost implementation.

You can use the 3.5mm analogue (headphone) audio out just need the right cable.

I recently purchased a Samsung "QLED" Q70A series TV that has exceeded expectations. Price was the main attraction. I'm seeing Black Friday sales on the same set now for $200 more than I paid.

Not sure of the screen technology, but I recommend a Sony TV. The smart software is based on Android and beats the pants off Samsung's and LG's (the only other two software I've used previously).

D'you mean the TV h/phone out? In every TV I've had, this has gone through the internal amplification and is therefore crap s.q. Line out is at least direct. Besides, going through the system gives me much more flexibility/control and use of more than one set of cans.

Yep - it's an option but it's crap hence suggesting a cheap DAC. New TVs generally don't have full size RCA analogue out these days, they have neem absent for a fair old while, lack of demand I guess

I've just bought a Philips OLED65706 for £1199 from AO.

Brilliant picture along with ambilight, this set only has it on three sides but it's the bottom of the range the 806 has a metal RC and four sided ambilights plus think it runs on Google OS whereas the set I have runs on Android 10 but I have an ATV 4K 21 however Philips 2021 sets have a bug that is affected when you connect an ATV 4k to them, its a Dolby Vision bug that switches the screen black and the DV logo constantly comes on, it's happened to me once when I connected a Panasonic Blu-ray recorder to the TV's HDMI 1 input the ATV 4k is in the HDMI 2 input so I removed the Panasonic from HDMI 1 and that seemed to have sorted the bug in the meantime there's also a muti-channel sound bug too.

Still a brilliant TV though and about £800 cheaper than the 806 but do do your own research as said above AV forums TV section is excellent and the guys are very very helpful.

I have a Sharp, which gives a better picture at the lower light levels I prefer. Samsung QLED needs to be run bright.
I used to design broadcast monitors long ago, so I get fussy

BT bought Dabs.com about 15 years ago and turned it into the eShop you see now. I used to be a trade customer with Dabs, I'm not with BT :)
