Interesting...i posted above that the design should be available to all customers as it would be a smart business move, and that seems to be the case.

Is this version actually deliverable or "will be in rhe near future?"

The LINK is manufactured in the UK sharing production facilities with products for aerospace, medical and military applications. It is available to pre-order now in silver or black on the Stack Audio website for £695 with a refundable £25 deposit. First deliveries are expected end Jan/early Feb 2019. - Hifi Pig

I'm now sure John could commercialise the MDAC2 and as part of the deal ask for a batch to be made for us. These would be made to a very high commercial product standard....and everyone would be happy.

When is Munich?...:D

Stack Audio has spent the last 5 years understanding the effects of phase noise

Five Years...

Pushing through the market square, so many mothers sighing
News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in
News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying...

Lets be honest for those in the UK (thanks to Brexit) this is the last Christmas we'll enjoy with electricity, making future development of anything moot, or mute. It almost seems like we've been funding the development of projects for Pro-ject and now Stack, i'm guessing they'll be a new Dac soon too with the board being developed over the last...wait for it...five years.

I can't help but feel investors are finding this as welcome as a drone pilot at an airport...over Christmas... ;) btw... Merry Christmas everyone!

"Stack Audio has spent the last 5 years understanding the effects of phase noise"
We all know who spend the last 5 years ;)

This sounds like the words from the marketing department, but everyone does it. Story telling is very important when getting your product noticed in a crowded space.

It is great to see another product based on Johns streamer and the Volumio software.

I see this as only a positive regarding the streamer build into the MDAC2!

Oh - lots of posts here since I last checked in.

The Stack Audio streamer is based on our MiniStreamer platform (with an improved internal PSU and solid CNC chassis) so it has the basic level USB Detox (as the ProJect streamer) but not the full blown Detox with decorrelation... The Stack Audio and ProJect are all design derivatives of the MiniStreamer.

For Lakewest, the Ministreamer was never intended as a full production product - we do not have the resources to manage production and sales etc. - with MDAC2 etc. being our priority. The Lakewest Ministreamers main purpose is as a developmetn platform and to Beta test of the MDAC2 software - and you can trust me that there is much daily back and forth behind the scenes with the Lakewest Beta testers as we work to improve the software.

Simple derivative designs like this help to keep the lights on while we progress the MDAC2 development and invest in production etc. We have no plans for MDAC2 production after the PFM units so its nice to see some further use of the hard work, so much of my life has been put into the design, I'm happy to see it put it some use beyond the 100 - 150 Pcs. MDAC2...

I hope the pfm mdac shareholders see the benefit of this income stream either financially or in terms of delivered product.

You seem to be inferring that there is no finished product, but the Ministreamer has been available for sale to PFM members for over 6 months (at under GBP300) however there has been very little interest, in fact only 10 have been manufactured - and a few of these units are still floating around the lab...

Its a shame as they work well and make a great versatile little streamer - but there has been VERY little interest here on PFM so I genuinely wish Stack Audio the best :) the ProJect units seem to be selling quite well by all accounts.

I don't know if its just me, but the PCB layout of the 'Link' looks suspiciously like a Lakewest design. John's been hard at work elsewhere, let's hope it pays off for us here.

At £695 its competitive with the streambox, but the build quality especially the solid aluminum chassis looks worth the extra. So this is a Detox + Streamer in a seriously shielded case that looks better than the Detox prototype designed for us.

We just need the new MDAC2 and pair it with the Link and we're there. Maybe the Link lacks the 'decorrelator' capability and anybody waiting just for the ultimate Detox shouldn't buy the Link instead....just yet anyway.

You cannot really compare the link with the MDAC2 + streamer option - one is a standalone streamer (with no DAC) while the MDAC2 is a DAC with a streamer option :) Only they share the same software foundations...

The Link is a higher quality Ministreamer... but then its over twice the cost... Detox decorrelation is only offered on the Detox and as an option on the MDAC2.

BTW. the ProJect streamer being based on the Lakewest steamer also offers the basic USB Detox mode (via USB bypass) - as mentioned before, the ProJect and SA streamers are derivative designs of the Ministreamer.

Yes I am surprised there is little interest because it's good and it essentially the EISA award winning Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 - or a supercharged Raspberry Pi - however you want to look at it.

I can only speak for myself, but I have no need for a streamer, and it’s not what I signed up for. We’re now told that to get the full functionality of the MDAC 2 we’ll need to buy the streamer board (maybe I’ve lost track and that’s changed), so what’s the point in paying for a streamer now and then paying for a second one when the MDAC is released?

To be honest I find it pretty appalling that after 5 years the design is still incomplete. I started off supportive of John as deadline after deadline was missed, but I’ve lost patience with the whole thing. I wish I’d never signed up to this shambles.

You shouldn't really be surprised, people signed up for an MDAC converter, not an MDAC converter plus streamer, besides the streamer section will be obsolete before the converter, adds complexity and as far as I am concerned as much use as the proverbial chocholate teapot regardless of how good it is. Remember, I am the customer and I am right.

Anyone use their Mdac for separate left right subs + mains ?
Splitters or do you use both rca and Xlr outputs?
I know this has been discussed before about using rca and Xlr output , for the life of me can’t rememeber the outcome .. sorry old age I guess.

I have to strongly disagree with you that the streamer will become obsolete and it does not add much complexity only value!

It can streaming DSD512 that should be future prof enough and upgrading to a future SOC is easy. It is like upgrading a RAM strick in a laptop.
You cannot do that with other streamers.

Phil,

You can use both RCA and XLR outputs - its not the ultimate option but will work OK.

The Streamer is still an option on the MDAC2, but it will be a Prerequisites for some of the future advanced options.
