Mahsa Amini RIP

Agreed, but it may represent the beginning of a collective change of mindset. Hopefully a tipping point.

Another bump, brutal but necessary.

Evin Prison, the place Iran keeps its political prisoners, is on fire (Shappi Khorsandi, Twitter).

PS I think this is where Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliff was detained.

They'll need the 5-7M strong Basij on their side before they have a chance.

Yes, according to an Iranian friend they won’t go without a fight, any revolution will be very bloody, imagine giving every UKIP supporter an AK and think how difficult it would be to overthrow them.

Yes, according to an Iranian friend they won’t go without a fight,

The recent film of a truck chasing protestors and with a person on its back shooting at them with a mounted machine gun suggests they are part of the oppression.

Iran is extremely corrupt and the Basij make a tidy profit, as well as the Republicans Guard, who apparently control alcohol distribution and sales amongst lots of other sidelines.

A 9-year old boy was killed when the security forces sprayed his family's car with bullets (his father seriously wounded). A woman and a 13-year old were also among the 7 to 15 (estimates vary) killed. The mollahs have still not been able to quell the riots despite their usual brutal repression. The death toll now exceeds 380, including 57 children and 57 security personnel, according to Iran Human Rights in Norway.

Bumped. One year now. Lest we forget.

The Iranian regime is again as strong as it ever was. Removing the mullahs from power will be difficult.

The resistance is strong though. I follow a few Iranians on Twitter so regularly hear news, see footage etc. So many astonishingly brave and intelligent women standing up to state/religious misogyny and oppressive violence, yet they keep standing. They keep fighting. The number of young women who have lost eyes or otherwise been maimed by these vile religious ghouls is just horrifying, yet they just don’t give up. The lack of attention outside Twitter etc is hugely depressing, they desperately need international support.

Another revolution will mean bloodshed for years, with little tanglible results for the common wo/man in the end. There is too much oil there for the West/China not to be interested, this will not exactly pacify the country.

Future looks grim for Iran.

Until there's a system of goverment in place that looks to uplift all in the country equally it'll never change.

And that's equally true for our so called modern democracies
