General Election 2024

Can any one advise what is required in terms of identity for voting in the election ? I guess postal voting removes this obligation!.....Perhaps not voting because of restrictions provides Mogg with a result?

Well, my long out of date German driving licence (with a photo of an early 20s me !) registered to an address in Frankfurt did it for me in the local elections last year. I had taken the precaution of acquiring Local Authority photo ID, but preferred to try the German photo driving licence (my UK licence is a pink one without photo). The old dears at the Polling Station looked a little confused and then just waved me on.

Whispering Grass is a beautiful song and brings me to tears whenever I hear it. Sing Lofty.

As I say I’m not banning him. More offering an editorial disclaimer as to who he is. This is a man who went door to door selling austerity, the ‘Hostile Environment’, Brexit etc etc. A man who took a lavish state pension won by decades of trade union activism, stabbed them in the back, and finally cashed in via PFI that your grandchildren will be paying for. I’m sorry, but I’ve not a lot of respect here. Especially given I’ve paid for every last one of his gloating posts!
TomyL is playing hardball. No doubt a spell of Sunak style national service will realign him with the statue quo/mainstream.

Surely the problem is that support for the Labour Party is also support for the self same pretty rotten ends, except with added taste of hypocrisy and betrayal of a stated position.
I think you may have made this point before. Why not get Labour = Conservative printed on the front of a tee shirt with Not My King on the back whilst luxuriating safe in the knowledge that you are the most radical/interesting person in Salisbury.

He's not that clever... As I recall he was the one who bemoaned the number of 'Arts' Degrees in the UK in complete ignorance of the UK Arts/Fashion/Media industries' huge export earnings.
He's a knob.
I don't think Gove is unaware of the value of the arts. He was likely playing the the gammon gallery, he's very good at that. The same as he was when slagging off "experts".

Do you have an actual argument against the observation that the Labour Party are demonstrably the ironclad continuation of the Thatcherite Project that started in the 70’s?

Or are you intent on only revealing your rather creepy storage of my personal details?

Labour for me is still an unknown quantity as to their policies. The Tories have confirmed they will cut benefits for the disabled and there is an deafening silence from Keir Starmer on this issue; does this mean he is to some extent in agreement with the Tories? In the past the Labour Party had clear socialist principles and would have reacted instantly to reassure and protect the benefits of the disabled...?
I will wait for concrete policies on this issue but as you say, the silence is deafening. As it stands there seems very little difference between current Tory Policy & Labours "CHANGE" stance. I am currently deciding if i will vote for Labour but i will definitely not be voting for the Liberals "anything goes" attitude to how society is run & the greens is a just a wasted vote. The Tories are a bunch of self serving millionaires, so that's a no go. I fear this could be the year i abstain & let the cards fall where they do..

I must live in a political black spot because I get hardly any material through the post or canvassers door knocking.
We've had three flyers from a prospective Conservative candidate in the last couple of months, one from the SNP and one from the LD's (Gordon constituency).

Regards

Richard

Every constituency is graded from being a no chance of winning to an already in the bag one. If you are in a marginal constituency, expect to receive many such sheets.

We have the joy of living in one of the safest Tory seats in the country so everyone else is effectively a paper candidate; we receive our fair share of leaflets but are spared the indelicacy of doorstep visits.

Normally, in an ultra safe Tory seat, you can expect one or two leaflets from the Tories just to make sure you identify with the candidate.

The Libs and Labour would only send you one about a week before the election and with the smaller parties it's anyones guess what their policy is.

I will vote for the party that has the best chance of beating the local Conservative incumbent. Who I actually quite like, but there you go. Abstaining could allow him to win.

Traditionally the LDs are the best at leafletting here despite not having any chance of winning.

It all depends on two things

1. What chance do they have of winning the seat
2. Are they gaining strength in your particular constituency.

The Libs came 5th in your constituency with a 7% share, so normally you might just get a couple of sheets.

However George Galloway has upset the apple cart and he could keep the seat or he could become toast depending how the local residents feel he is looking after them. Also why did an independent achieve a 21% share.

These are two scenarios that local parties hate because it's all up in the air. I would expect a goodly amount of leaflets in your case from the top 5 candidates.

I don't identify with the candidate. Clearly I need more leaflets!
If you live in a safe tory seat, they would not normally care, but in 2024 there will be significantly less safe Tory seats, so this time they may start caring.
