Classic British Modern & Free Jazz Recommendations

Substantial new album from Andy Hay on the way (Bandcamp). Vinyl doesn’t come anymore hand-made than this, I’ve got the first two and they are beautiful things. Listening to a few tracks on Bandcamp it sounds like he’s found a really good groove with this one. I’ve preordered.

PS Never realised he was a Manc before finding his YouTube channel. Looks like this one was recorded about 5-6 miles away from where I live!

Just managed to obtain the 3 sided LP version of this:

Not audiophile hifi, but essential IMO. I have nothing but respect for KT, and this group must have set the British jazz scene on fire in its day. Keith was 23 when this was recorded - and so mature.

Trevor Tomkins fans - he’s on most of it before he was replaced by Bryan Spring. (Don’t know what the story is there).

The Jazz In Britain label announced on their Facebook page yesterday that they're starting an offshoot for new jazz called Now Jazz.

First release will be from Trevor Watts' current trio.

This 50th anniversary event for Ogun Records and Cadillac Records looks great.

Featuring a film screening of very rare footage of the Blue Notes at The Old Place, 1967, plus live music from Mike Westbrook and a tribute to Louis Moholo-Moholo featuring Jason Yarde, Roberto Ottaviano - saxophones, Alex Hawkins - piano, Neil Charles - double bass, Mark Sanders - drums, Plus more tbc

I sadly can't make it - I hope the Blue Notes footage gets another outing.
