Best live albums

I know I've said this before ad nauseam but Charles Mingus, Cornell 1964. Amazing, incendiary, possessed, funny, exciting, vital music. Wobbly SQ, banged mics, tape dropouts, mono. None of that matters.
And I've just remembered the runner-up. Monk - Big Band and Quartet in Concert. Recorded live in NYC, December 1963. Joyous stuff, in living stereo and amazing SQ. Get the extended 2CD version.

I think you may be right - in my teens/early twenties, nothing better. But I haven't listened to it for quite a while. Of its time perhaps?

Alice in Chains - MTV Unplugged.

Played it today - original Columbia 1st pressing - and it blew me away. Tis a thing of sonic magnificence.

Apparently worth over £200 now.

Quite a nice bonus to discover afterwards.

Great idea for a thread - I'll have to go back through the posts at my leisure. I'm not sure if these have been mentioned
Dire Straits - Alchemy Live
Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous

UK Subs - Crash Course
(Obviously) Motorhead - No Sleep 'till Hammersmith.
honorable mention to: Saxon - The Eagle has Landed (1982)
...I'm sure there is more if I thought about it!

This is a fav of mine.

It has an impromptu battle with Buddy Rich within it. Even Frank gets a nod, and Sammy shows off his impersonation skills.

All mentioned before but that’s because they are all magnificent:
Waiting for Columbus.
How the West Was Won
Live at Leeds
Stop Making Sense
Get Yer Ya Ya’s out
L & D

And I’d also cite the famous Little Feat bootleg, Electrif Lycanthrope.

+1 for Electrif Lycanthrope (now released officially), American Cutie is as good.

not a sort of record I go for as been disappointed manty times in the past. If i had to pick one it would be Bill Withers - Carnegie Hall
