Anybody been on the Linn Forum recently?

Oh well, if the Wam are to take things over that will be alright then........

Erm, perhaps - maybe

I just thank God that it is there and not here. This place gets nasty when one-make fanboys get the bit between there teeth.

I hope that the Linnies that have come over here already gain no more traction than they already have.

Does that mean you are not a Linn fan or someone who does not want ex Linn forum members to join here?

If so it is certainly very far from my or the moderators view! There is room for all here, all are very welcome. I’ve owned quite a number of Linn products over the years (LP12 (several), Ittok, Kan, Kan II (twice), Sara (only for a week), Isobarik)! My guess Linn would be very close to the top in any poll of brands folk own or have owned on pfm.

Neither of the above ...I have a Karik and a Kairn in my system now. I also own an LP12 and Akito ( both for sale if anyones interested. )

I was commenting on what seems to happen when an exclusive grouping club together on a forum and will truck no argument that their particular equipment of choice is the best there ever was or will be... there can be no discussion with them over it. It always ends in a fight.

As has already happened on here they also bring their bitching from their previous forum over here and just carry it on.

Maybe initially as folk find their feet, but over time it is always absorbed and just fades into the general identity and diversity of the place. pfm is a very old forum, it has seen many others come, peak, trough and finally go, and has adopted many orphans along the way! Linnies should fit in fine, most of us know their quaint little bouncy-bouncy rubber-band deck rather well! ;-)

Obviously I’m writing this from the perspective of never having visited the Linn forum myself, but as a manufacturer-owned site I can’t imagine it was too wayward or badly behaved, surely?!

PS For some reason I seem to be a member of the Facebook LP12 group (there is such a thing). I’m not quite sure how that happened as I’m not especially good with Facebook, but it is mainly pictures of LP12s playing various records. I keep meaning to post a picture of my TD-124 to it!

My system doesn't contain any Linn gear now.
It did in the past.
My system is the best it's ever been now.

Conclusions drawn...

As you're referring to me, that was mostly a Lejonklou versus Linn fight, and I won't fuel that again.
When the Linn forum was closed I first tried the Lejonklou forum and that didn't go too well. I tried to release steam over here, and that backfired.
I apologized for that and I was hoping that those would be accepted.

The Linn forum was quite open in it's views, many issues were covered and not all who posted there owned a full Linn system, maybe only a deck or speakers or in some cases were looking for information on the start of their HiFi journey.

If I recall there was only one poster who was banned from the Linn forum, at least as far as I know.

It was well moderated, like PFM, and people came and went as their questions or points were answered or made.

I think like any forum that is run by a manufacturer it will be mainly made up of members who own or want to own that equipment and so will more than likely have views on that product range, against other manufacturers.

I think Tony is right, in a few months it will all have settled down and the people who were members of the Linn forum will either join other forums or maybe just stop being a member of any forum.

Whatever, there is a wealth of information held within the members of the now ex Linn forum that would be of benefit to others, it would be a pity to lose that.

I must admit that I'm a bit shocked by the aggression against one-branders as stated above.
My setup is mostly Linn as I loathe visiting dealers, shows and figuring out which component sounds better or worse in a setup that is totally differently from my own.
I have a friend who absolutely loves doing all those things, and we came to the conclusion that in the end, our setups sound, money for money, quite similar, despite being totally different.
He spent more by traveling around, I spend more by accepting less choice. Same difference really.

I've been a member of the Linn forum since it started, and here since around 2005, as I think it's sensible to see a wider perspective on things. It's a shame the Linn forum has gone, but I don't think there will be issues with ex-members causing problems here or on the 'Wam.

pfm has an active reference area, I’d be happy to host any Linn related FAQs, tweaks, mods or whatever there if someone wanted to write and curate it. This room is read-only to all but FAQ owners (a group category), so anyone looking to do it needs to contact me to obtain access rights.

As you're referring to me,
.

Actually... I wasn't. I was not thinking of personalities at all. Banned members of other forums have history here. I was thinking of a hardcore of the Banned Of The Wam .
It was clear why one would ban them if one was so inclined. The Linn threads on here did a rapid slide in the same direction until a Mod stepped in to referee it.

As to your other comment above....Quote " I must admit that I'm a bit shocked by the aggression against one-branders "

What aggression?...I see none. You should see how the Naim boys on here have kicked off in the past .:)

Tin.... if it helps you gain any perspective ( about me ) a previous system of mine ( for quite a number of years ) was thus..

LP12
Ittok
Asaka
Kairn
Karik
Klouts
Saras

Plus... all Linn interconnects ( still use them ) and Linn speaker cables.

Don't think they were taken by surprise just that the whole thing happened fairly quickly, his post implies they have been in talks with Linn prior to the closure announcement.

It's not a surprise given pet food petes interest in commercialising the wam

It's all been a bit sudden and I'm working hard with Linn to try and get all the content that has been lovingly written passed over and a lot of the retail conversation too.
