David "No Plans to Raise VAT" Cameron also promised not to change child benefits (his government did), not to cut tax credits (they did, twice), not to re-organize the NHS (they did), and of course not to walk away if he lost the referendum (he did, whistling to himself). Theresa "No New General Election" May suddenly found a Magic Money Tree to buy off the DUP after the New GE blew up in her face. She also broke her promise that her government would focus on the interests of "just about managing" people rather than the "privileged few", broke a manifesto promise to put worker representatives on company boards, left child refugees out in the cold after pledging to take 3000 of them, etc.
