How was beaten? Were you there? It wasn’t a very good CD player over a decade ago brand new, never mind now. The thing was beaten by streamers practically before it came out of the box.
IME No streamer can sound as good as a cd player..
Because of cables, too much on streamers..Please tell us why not.
I’m sure Mike Reed will be here to pat you on the back and tell you it is wonderful - the bestest of the best, ever.
And it's only the TAD entry level player.

The streamer wins by a factor of 4
Not that I can hear much difference, if any, between them...
No doubt somebody will be along shortly to tell me that I must have impaired hearing.
The obsolescence risks re CD players are points well made but I am hoping that any unit with spare transport mechs (Isis) and/or digital inputs (Luxman, Isis and others) will partially mitigate that.
Maybe just bias, you want that streamer to sound the same, it`s a pain in the ass to use cds..No doubt somebody will be along shortly to tell me that I must have impaired hearing.
My final CD player is a little-used Sony 777ES model. Well over £2000 when new, I paid £600 delivered.
I thought my Naim CD 3.5 was good, but this Sony is superb.
I will see me out, as I bought a spare transport for it.
Mind you, I still play lots of records...
I have about 500 recordings on CD which are not available via Qobuz; when that's the music I want, I play a CD. I still like them.Maybe just bias, you want that streamer to sound the same, it`s a pain in the ass to use cds..
I know people with huge flac libraries using streamers, while their high end cd players collecting dust, because streamers are good enough.
I don't think I can pick level matched a good dac out of a cd player or a streamer, but certainly I hardly listen to any album from start to finish on pc, as I do on a cd player..
Re alternatives such as streaming or separate transport and dac solutions, I am grateful for the suggestions offered but I have made various attempts to pursue those in the past and been unsuccessful. It might have been a function of my poor choice of components, poor implementation or even cloth ears but having given them a shot. I am reluctant to keep trying.
