5-10k ish Speakers

At last! You finally understand why it's of little or no value to compare one pair of speakers with another in two different rooms.

By all the god's man!!!!!

You perpetually whine like a slapped bitch.

Get past this, pleeeeeeaaaassseeeee!

OK, managed to bow out of work before darkness and found myself in a suitable Hi-Fi store: Demo of Obelisks and 604s lined up as a start.

Let us know how you get on. I've heard Obelisks quite a lot and really can't make my mind up if I like them or not. Being omnidirectional they spray sound all over the place so are a very different thing to most speakers, as such it's a unique perspective on the music and certainly not what would have been heard in the studio. By saying that they sound great! Will be interesting to see what you make of them. I think they look stunning and would really look the part in a modernist space.

Tony.

Tony, funny how opinions vary. IMO, they not suited to a modernist room at all. More like a 1980's pomo office.

They have a strong whiff of Eames to my eyes. I'm talking proper modernism here, i.e. 1950s, most current audio is utterly repulsive aesthetically IMO. Just form, no function.

Tony.

Suppose they could look right when placed with Eames or Corb, but they'd need very careful arrangement. There's plenty of good looking speakers around, but not from UK stables.

Thing i find is most people in the UK only ever hear/comment on their lower pro end models. Wheres the rest of the world only have impressive things to say about the bigger 'real' pro speakers and the Tensor range.

Have a look at these, plenty of fans:

Review: "thrilled by the gigantic sound level"

"Indeed, the ADAMs can be considered to be the first compact speaker in the history of hi-fi that is interesting even for those who seek to combine the easiness and implicitness of foils with the resources of a dynamic speaker. […] thrilled by the gigantic sound level […].
Rating: outstanding, highend-class"

I'm sold!!

As soon as I sell a testicle or two or three, I'm in there.

Gloss black babies though.

Wonder how they'd sound with my humble CDQ?

James has a very competitive streak where hi-fi is concerned yet he is not prepared to make any changes.

Actually, I couldn't give a monkey's what most people on this forum ill-informed opinions are, but it's fun to argue with some of them. I'll change if and when I hear a better system, but that's extremely unlikely to happen as I have fabulous room acoustics and very good speakers.

What on earth are you on about?

You keep whining about testing speakers in rooms blah blah blah, when the man has repeatedley stated that the speakers under discussion are not comparable. And reasons for this have been repeatedly expressed. (and by a user who has owned and heard both speakers, whilst you....have not.)

You seem to be an ATC fanboi of the most 'durable' calibre.

It becomes irritating to even the most placid of readers.

I wouldn't want those in my living room, not even for much less than 12.5k.

They're a bit scary/in ya face in black'n'silver but when all black and up close in the flesh, they're nothing but admirable. They are a true form follows function design. Every line on them has an acoustically gratified purpose.

Do you own a dog? I was in a meeting this morning at our business forum. Dog seaman is selling for £1K a pop for good breeds, not the best job to be doing but its better than selling a testicle. 8 'dogjobs' and you can have a pair of Deltas. :D
