2012-2013 Scottish Football Thread.

Do you think so? Not with 3 qualifying rounds next season and little chance of being able to sign (or even keep) decent players due to the lack of domestic competition for a few more seasons.

You just worry about your team getting out of Div 3 and finding a new manager :)

HMRC found that the EBT's were part of the players salary so therefore there was no reason to declare them. Simple as that. The Celtic/SPL kangaroo court had to find Rangers guilty of something to justify the £500,000 they spent on the case. Why would it be relevant to the SPL if Celtic retrospectively paid tax on their EBT or not? If Rangers broke the rules (which is very debatable) then so must Celtic.

As for an unfair advantage - even the Celtic/SPL kangaroo court was unequivical in finding that there was no unfair advantage. As for the affordability - given it's proven in law that no additional tax was required to be paid, then how could it have been unaffordable? Rangers had already paid what was required.

The Rangers team might not be up to SPL standards but it's more than capable of winning the league it's in. As is the Celtic team - despite its domestic form also being terrible (with yet another defeat today).

I'll try again. EBTs were illegal, they were not declared by Rangers "There is no evidence that the board of directors of oldco took any steps to obtain proper external legal or accountancy advice as to the risks inherent in agreeing to pay players through the EBT arrangements without disclosure to the football authorities. While there is no question of dishonesty, individual or corporate, we nevertheless take the view that the non-disclosure must be regarded as deliberate." The words of Lord Nimmo-Smith.

What is this stuff about the Celtic/SPL kangaroo court. You are claiming without a shred of evidence that Celtic have corrupted the very highest levels of the Scottish legal system to get one over Rangers. Do you know how laughable that makes you sound?

Scottish football has and always will suck.
Take Celtics latest venture into Europe for example.
There has only been two teams in Scotland, and neither have proven anything in any decade for four or so decades, apart from winning a Scottish title.
Port Vale would be in the top two in the SFL!

They're ok but they're no Ross County.

:):):) I like it. BTW did you see Messi's goal tonight against Deportivo, just fantastic, the control is out of this world. And no over the moon celebration afterwards, total class. He blessed himself afterwards, so he will not appear at Ibrox at any time in the near future. :)

I think Scottish football is heading into even darker days in the next year or so. The national squad are bottom of their qualifying group (not a single win after 5 games), Dunfermline are on the edge of extinction, Hearts are floundering towards the edge and Rangers continue to look mostly useless in Div 3.

Celtic will lose about 3 or 4 of their best players in the summer and face 3 qualifying stages before the CL next season while their own season will have barely started. Not much to be optimistic about it seems, or may be we are just a shower of gloomy b*stards up here!

Today the following emerged -
"Police have carried out a series of raids relating to the purchase of Rangers Football Club by Craig Whyte from Sir David Murray".

Then also today -
"Craig Whyte has been ordered to pay £18m to the finance firm Ticketus after he lost a claim against him at the High Court in London."

And in case you thought that there couldn't anymore in one day -
Rangers chief executive Charles Green has apologised "unreservedly" for comments that have led to a Scottish FA notice of complaint, for allegedly making comments "of an offensive and racist nature"
. BBC Scotland.

Charlie Green or Coisty will walk away pretty soon, or maybe both.

Talks among all the SPL clubs came to nothing yesterday, league reconstruction part 1 is dead. There is no sponsorship deal for next season and an uncertain TV deal. A new set-up would have helped these 2 situations considerably and given more money to Div 1 team. Fans did not have all the information needed to decide, that's why clubs have boards of directors.

Celtic wanted the voting structure changed from 11-1, but St Mirren and Ross County put the kybosh on this. They have some explaining to do.

Dark days for Scottish football.

Celtic and Aberdeen were the 2 clubs that voted against changes to the voting structure earlier in the season - wanting to keep 11-1 to protect their own self interest. The offer to change to 9-3 only related to league restructuring, not to other issues that require an 11-1 majority so really wasn't helpful.

The bottom line is that very few fans want the a league setup of 12-12 becoming 8-8-8 and the only two clubs that appear to have consulted their fans have gone with their wishes.

The 11-1 structure is ridiculous and Gilmour had stated on St Mirren's website that he was opposed to the voting structure to the extent that it stopped him voting for the reconstruction. But if the voting structure was to change would he then vote for reconstruction, er no.

What do the fans want then, does anyone know what they want, do they know? A lot seem to want 16-16 which is a non starter.

There is no sponsor for the SPL and probably next to nothing in the TV deal organised for next season. Had the 12-12 gone ahead there would have been a sponsor. If it had gone ahead a lot more money would have been set aside for Div 1 clubs (a number are in poor health financially).

Change will happen probably a SPL 2, but how much more money will that bring in from TV and sponsors than the present set up?
