    IEM recommendation please

Whatsisnaim - I haven't tried any Shures apart from the SE425 and was only commenting on those particular models. I definitely agree that fit is all important, but regardless of tips, the SE425s just don't do it in the bass department for me.

    IEM recommendation please

I have the following IEMs: Shure SE425, Sennheiser IE80 and Etymotic ER4-XR Shures are bass light even with Comply tips, but are not microphonic and have a nice midrange and treble. Sennheisers: less refined mid/treble than the other, but good bass. You can tune them (using a small supplied...

    FLAC + PC + Hugo2 v Vinyl + LP12

No contest when it comes to technical capability of the 2 formats, digital is clearly much better. However, agree that some vinyl pressings will sound better than the digital equivalent due to over zealous loudness compression on the digital transfer for example. Read hear for a good technical...

Any recommended active standmounts under £2000?

I've got AVI ADM40 floorstanding actives which I love. There's a pair for sale on the HDDAudio site for £1800.

Whats your album of 2017 so far ?

Aldous Harding - Party is my favourite so far. Also enjoying Slowdive and Julie Byrne - Not Even Happiness a lot. I was looking forward to Gorillaz new album, but this is their first one I've not really got.

    Going for the simple life.....

As I understand it, you have 6 years to bring a case. However, if the fault occurred more than 6 months after the initial purchase, the burden of proof is on the consumer to show that the fault was present at time of purchase. It's not a 6 year warranty. My suggestion of the OP is a...

    Which cheap dac?

Short answer is i didn't. It was a blind test conducted by a friend, we started out with a volume of zero, increase the volume until it was at a subjectively similar level and then had to guess whether it was the Sabre DAC or Chord Mojo. Neither of us could tell.

    Which cheap dac?

I've got the HiFiMe Sabre 9018 and use it mainly as a DAC between my PC and Genelec Active speakers. It also drives my Sennheiser HD650s very well. I compared it to a Chord Mojo today and couldn't tell any difference between the two.

Pi: SPDIF card or ASync USB?

Using an async DAC means jitter is not a problem. I'd argue jitter isn't a problem with either approach. As has been said, using optical toslink means no electrical connection between your PI and DAC. If that's causing problems, toslink is a good solution, otherwise stick with your current DAC.

Ancient hi fi amp for teenage Xmas?

Google Music is a good option, the app is free, you can upload upto 50K tracks (IIRC) to the Google cloud for free and stream them to the Chromecast over wifi. If you want to stream local content (e.g., a NAS) or from the phone, Plex is a good Chromecast compatible app. No subscriptions...

Another one to consider is the Yamaha WXC-50 http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/wireless_streaming_amplifiers/wxc-50/?mode=model No headphone or balanced output, but does offer airplay so you could ditch your AEX and use the optical in for your CDP. Analogue in too. Good price too...

    Improving PC streaming

I'm not sure what you're claiming is presumptuous and find your reaction OTT in the extreme in that you hope "do gooders" lose their home! This post had nothing to do with dealers who sell foo, merely that, as per the article I linked to: "Sit down and do a blind comparison if you really want...
